Pascal Drought?

why not get like a gsync monitor to make everything smooth? isn't that what the main purpose of that is. Plus I see myself as my expectations being unrealistic Asking for 60 minimum. I mean at a high resolution I highly doubt even 1080 ti will reach 60fps minimum with all setting cranked up. I think you are expecting too much from even 1080ti. 60fps minimum at best possible setting is giving yourself a reason not to buy anything lol. Anyways I hope 1080ti meets your demands but I highly doubt it will. 60fps minimum in most demanding games is long wa oyut. Take Crysis 3 as an example, heck even the cards today are not hitting 60fps minimum with all the bells a whistles turned up. So that is a very high mark to meet and won't come anytime soon.

I already have G-Sync: PG278Q.

I was using TW3 60fps minimum @ 1440p as a reference point for the GPU performance I am looking for, so I can play the game and mod Fallout 4 with impunity. 1080 [H] review point it at about 48fps minimum, so it's not THAT far away from hitting 60fps minimum.

Actually, I am not in that great of playing TW3 at minimum 60fps.... But I am in the dilemma of 1070 isn't quite enough, 1080 is a tad expensive and still not quite there thing.

Hence... waiting for 1080ti.

Honestly, waiting until August or whatever so that you can get the card for the value proposition it was fully and intentionally advertised to be is real time lost on the product cycle and the lifespan of the card.

When new cards come out every year to a year and a half, 2 months is an entire 1/8 of the card's lifespan (or else pay more, and so abandon claim to value).

It's easy to say that one does not need video cards to live or some sort, but it doesn't change how poorly they executed this. It's not even as if they make more money on the gouged sales.

The only solace comes from the fact that the time taken off this card's lifespan will be added back when they likely fuck up again with the next generation's release, but again, all it really does is make us more the waiting chumps in their game.

feels bad man

Very good points... :)

There is availability issue for a lot of peeps. I.e. I don't want to be forced to buy Card X (only in stock), because Card Y (which I want) is not there. Also some peeps are waiting for any potential hw/driver issues to be sorted out.

I would argue both the 14nm and 16nm launches had their own unique difficulties.
AMD has already addressed their issue with a driver update. Ironically, with all the smoke finally clearing, I think they've made the best of their situation.

I would hope that nVidia addresses the VR and latency issues quickly as well.
This doesn't even touch on the Pascal FE pricing sham, where both 1070/1080 cards are basically priced close to the upper bound, and nothing like the MSRP.
E.g. for me, I'm not planning on paying more than $399 for a 1070, if I buy one, and have the discipline to wait for the price-gouging to subside.
Moving forward, I'm not sure I can take nVidia's word seriously regarding the MSRP.

Yes, we've gotten reassurances on the 1060 launch, that the MSRP *may* be actually a reality, but I'll believe it when I see it. Cynicism on the Pascal launch is totally justified here :p
(TPU's recent eVGA 1070 review touches on this too haha. I'm not alone.)

This.

That length of time you're having to wait is not insignificant. Because of the shambles--of Nvidia's creation--that is the gouge-infested Pascal launch, you are poorly served as a consumer.

From what we know about their record, we shouldn't count on good faith. Most likely, their official line a year from now will be to brag they launched in May for X price, when in reality most of us could only get it in August (if even, at this rate). Shame on them.
