Well I want to partition my main HD so I can put Ubuntu on my main HD. I already have XP on it, and wanna dual boot w/ xp and linux. The main question is, is there a freeware program that will partition my drive with the data already on it? I know I can format my C drive then partition it, but I don't wanna loose all my info.

ty :)!

ubuntu will automatically repartition your unused space on your hard drive. im almost 100% certain this is true. either way, backup just in case (always do this when doing any repartitioning of drive)

but I don't have a partition to put ubuntu on ATM. I'd have to clear my drive, then put XP back, then Ubuntu. Is there a freeware prog that will partition my HD w/out a format?

as i stated before (i'll try to make this a bit more clear), i am almost certain that you will not have to burn stuff, recreate a partion for linux and then install. i believe ubuntu will resize the windows partition from the unused disk space and create the needed partition space for would you need. and as i said before, always make a back up of anything you need just incase.
