partitioning hard drive for xp pro

i usually have my OS and Apps on different partitions on the same hard drive, is it better to have them on the same partition, or is my way just as good or better?

Your OS and Installed applications (program files) should be on the same partition. If you have your programs installed on a different partition then your OS, then once you reformat your OS, 95% of the programs won't run anymore without re-loading them anyway. As for using a logical partition for data storage, it's more personal preference. You'll be out of luck if the drive crashes, but it's easier to hvae all your data stored on a different partition for when you do any re-formats.
 
I have all my programs and windows stuff in a particion (c:\) and my personal data, games, ghost backup in the second partition(d:\), never had a single problem this way.

I have my OS and programs on a different physical drive than my other stuff:)

it's running out of space though...
