i just bought a 80gb hd and i want to know how i can partition it so i can install my windows on it any help would be thankfull

During the first phase of the windows setup you will be prompted to create a partition. You can create as many as you like from there. Then after windows is installed you will need to format additional partitions created in the setup by: right clicking my computer>manage then go to the disk management section (towards the bottom on the left). Then right click>format from there.

Alternatively, you can create a single partition to install windows on during setup and deal with creating/formatting the others from the disk management utility. Does not matter one way or the other... its just a preference.

I have no idea why you would get a 80gb drive, they're currently the worst value on the market, as far as $$$ per GB. I chose WD as the brand seeing they are generally the cheapest. the Number represents how many GB you get for a dollar, so the higher the number, the better the value. Oh, by the way, these were taking in Australian Dollars from www.pcmaniacs.com.au I'd say the same value would crossover to the US & UK.etc

For everyone, i made this table displaying the most gb for $$$...

Western Digital 4000KD 400GB 16Mb SATA: 1.066
Western Digital 3200JD 320GB 8Mb SATA: 1.338
Western Digital 3000JD 300GB 8Mb SATA: 1.345
Western Digital 2500KS 250GB 16Mb SATA II: 1.237
Western Digital 2500JS 250GB 8Mb SATA II: 1.396
Western Digital 2000JS 200GB 8Mb SATA II: 1.369
Western Digital 1600JS 160GB 8Mb SATA II: 1.280
Western Digital 1200JS 120GB 8Mb SATA II: 1.019

Best Value to Worst Value...

Western Digital 2500JS 250GB 8Mb SATA II: 1.396
Western Digital 2000JS 200GB 8Mb SATA II: 1.369
Western Digital 3000JD 300GB 8Mb SATA: 1.345
Western Digital 3200JD 320GB 8Mb SATA: 1.338
Western Digital 1600JS 160GB 8Mb SATA II: 1.280
Western Digital 2500KS 250GB 16Mb SATA II: 1.237
Western Digital 4000KD 400GB 16Mb SATA: 1.066
Western Digital 1200JS 120GB 8Mb SATA II: 1.019

So it appears that 250Gb is currently the best value for money. It also appears that the 16mb drives are poor value at the moment. Over the years, the best value HDD's will slowly go to the higher capacity drives, so by the end of this year, the 300GB will probably be the best value for Gigs.

Anyway, there you go...

So informative, but so....obsessive! Lol. It was great. Thanks for the info, it's even more appreciated as I'm Australian.

When installing Windows, it will ask you to partition or to use the entire drive. Follow the steps above the list of partitions to create a partition, etc. When your done, select partition 1 and your set to go.

Good luck. Hope this has been helpful.

By the way, www.pcmaniacs.com.au is pretty cheap and the guy that runs the show there is a really good bloke, he was a struggler and decided to start a online pc shop and he seems to be going well now, please support him, seeing he is a good bloke and his prices a really low.

Yeah, it's Rex. I have a chat to him every now and again. Ordered a few things from him. He shows up on staticice pretty prominantly, that's gotta help no end. Great on service, no overnight shipping option for small items though. :(
