Partition Unallocated after Windows Reinstall

I have two hard drives, and had three partitions, C (Windows), E (Programs), and F (Media, documents, etc.). The C and E partitions are on the first hard drive, while F is the whole second hard drive.

After a fresh reinstall on C, the files on my E remain. The second hard drive itself is still detected, but everything on my F partition has apparently been unallocated and all the files are seemingly gone. From what I know, a Windows reinstall on one seperate partition should keep the files on another partition intact, right?

So, does anybody know what happened, and if I can possibly reverse and retrieve the files on my F partition? Please pardon me if this question has been asked many times already, or if I sound like a newbie.

this doesnt sound good. but yea if u install windows on one partition it should not touch the others at all.

in windows you see F but it says its unallocated? whats it say in disk management/

That's weird.

This is why I remove all other hard drives from my machine before I reformat/reinstall.

Better safe than sorry.

Well it was in Disk Management I saw it was unallocated.

Edit: I don't see F. That's the problem.

Okay looks like I was able to scan the files with Restorer2000, and luckily, they were still all there! Whew, now to recover them. Thanks for helping guys, and also the good 'ol search button, it is truly [H]ard.
