Partition management on a SSD

If I use an utility like gparted to resize a partition to create another one, is this a bad idea? Will this generate tons of I/O that will kill the drive prematurely? I imagine it also has to defragment the partition in order to resize it as some of the data may be past the new boundary. Will all this data moving around significantly reduce it's life?
 
SSDs are not fragile. It doesn't matter if every bit has to get moved on the SSD to create your new partition. Its not like you are going to do this every day, and even then I bet it would take a few years to kill it. I do software development on virtual machines daily on a couple of SSDs and I bet I am writing at least x10 as much as a hard core gamer to the drives - no problems. If you care about its longevity, than over-provision it, which is a fancy way of saying do not format the entire size, leave at least 3-5% of it unformatted.
