Parted Magic is GParted and more... All with a smaller footprint and easier interface to use.
I second the Parted Magic. I've never had a problem with it.

Yup...with todays free products out there now with great features, no need for the boring old boot CDs. Can do things on the fly, extend without reboot, can copy dynamic to basic,

Yea I wouldn't want to resize a Server's partition with Windows still running at all.
Home use isn't so bad but I'd never do that, especially on a server. Only things I'd do on the fly is if it's setup in such a way Windows can do it natively.

Actually,
This still wouldn't work for shrinking one and growing another, things like that... Still best to do outside of the OS.

Actually...99 and 44/100ths % of the time..you ARE taking space from an adjacent partition. HAS worked very well for me many times.

More than that was my first underlined portion... The unallocated space. If there's data sitting right next to it then Windows (or anything running in it, really) can't expand it. Got to do that outside of the OS.

extending partition no problem. But shrinking a partition no way I am doing that in Windows

Never even tried Diskpart? Native windows command line utility, I use that a lot on servers. Lots of people think you have to turn to 3rd party utilities...but Diskpart is a native Windows utility that lets you do a lot of stuff..often done live in the blink of an eye.

Resurrecting this older thread, and since it seems to be about Parted Magic I'll give it a shot... I downloaded and created a boot CD for this which works fine, and it my first attempt could not resize partitions as I received an error message.
Bottom line, I need more space for a C: drive on a spare computer in the house. The C: drive is primary and there is an extended partition with D: and E: drive located in it. I seem to recall an issue where you could not resize a partition if it contained logical drives. The E: drive is basically a one gig partition specifically for the page file. The D: drive is data and maybe some game installs.
It would be nice to maintain the C: drive XP Pro install without having to blowout the whole drive and start over since my daughter has her stuff setup on the drive. I'm fairly certain the mobo will only support PATA hard drives, but am not certain without taking the box apart which I'll probably do this weekend.
Soooooo, if there is nothing worth keeping on the D: and E: drive, how do I use Parted Magic to make the C: drive bigger? Thanks for any assistance

Paragon is no joke awesome software, so is ShadowProtect. Since visiting this thread I'm trying the free versions of Easeus in a virtual machine to see how it works with a live OS.
