This is the demo for Pariah, including game modes Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch and Front Line Force. Pariah is a Sci-fi first-person shooter from the team behind the Unreal franchise, Digital Extremes. Not straying too far from their roots, Digital Extremes is building Pariah with the latest version of the technologically powerful Unreal engine by Epic Games.

I was disappointed. I really like the sniper rifle zoom and the healing idea though. And where the heck is the pistol? I never saw one.

This demo blue screens on me every time I try to run it.

This is the first game I've tried in a good long time that wouldn't run at all, so I don't know what the hell its problem is.

Edit: Tried upgrading my video drivers from 71.84 to 71.89 after using Driver Cleaner 3 and it still blue screens. I was expecting something a bit more solid than this from epic. Uninstalled. :(

Is this even from Epic? I thought it was by Digital Extreme.

What kind of guns are available in this? Are any guns not in the demo that will exist in the full version? I never heard of the game, but I'm into the futuristic sci-fi shooters. Bullets and stuff bore me, but lasers are fun :D.

It is ok. WTF is Front Line Assault though. What are you suppose to do in it? Yes I am stupid for asking this question :D

I was looking forward to this one too because of all the cool previews but after reading many responses to the demo, turns out it's not worth it. What a shame :( Why can't we get some more fun fps's, it must be really hard to pull off

Why does everyone and their grandma use Fileplanet first to release a demo and such? Im sick and tired of waitng for hours to download a demo that should be more available than a place that makes you sign away your life to dl a file.

Are there any mirrors?

first thing I do, if the file is at Fileshitfuckplanet, is copy the file name then check it in google. 9 times out 10 I can find it somewhere else without having to wait. Seriously!

I got it in 20 mins this morning from some other place.

wow, this has to be worse than diakatana! what a peice of shit. i feel sorry for the designers.

Ouch. I'm downloading it now, but after reading that, maybe I should cancel... :D

I thought it wasnt bad, seemed like a cross between UT and something a bit more realistic like BF

demo is getting slammed all over the web.....tis too bad, i needed something to hold me over until bf2 :(

What crap... looks/runs like shit and programmers were so retarded they couldn't even get the program to uninstall properly, it deleted my desktop... had to remake the desktop folder...

o hell no he just didn't say the d word.

After playing it for about 2 hours this is what I think of it. Yes the demo was disappointing! What I did like about it, is that is did use the Unreal engine so the graphics were nice. The loading times were impressing. It was taking me about 6 secs to connect to a server and im already choosing what class I want to be in. I did like the ideal of player classes. What I didnt like, is that the crosshairs on the guns basically sucked. They need to finish the vehicle animations. For me at least, everytime I was driving a vehicle, it looked like it was sliding, because the tires barely turned. In the maps, there were alot of places were I got "stuck" in for a couple secs.

Overall, I do not think you should judge this game based on the demo. First, is because this was the MP demo. There still a good chance that the SP could rock. Second, they only gave us one map for the 3 modes the released. If im not mistaken there are like 5 MP modes all together. There are still vehicles they didnt put in the demo I believe(Ok never mind, they did give us all the vehicles the game has to offer!!). And the most important thing, they havent given us all the maps for the MP modes!!!! There are most likely tons more player models to. When the game is released wait to reviews come out on IGN or something then base your decision from there.

www.filerush.com much better than fileplanet, they have everything on torrent, and then normal download style as well. i get my stuff from that place when i can. www.filefront.com also is a lot better at not making you wait in lines than FP is, but they still have them. i don't think i've ever actually had to wait in one.

videos for pariah look amazing, i'm hoping it's better than you guys are saying.

That happened to me too, but I hadn't realized Pariah did it. What utter garbage

Hello.

People mentioning the "D" word, fuck right off.

People who obviously didn't play "D" don't get to compare other games to it, especially when they are so badly wrong.

The Pariah multiplay demo is not bad, however it did have a disappointing lack of polish to it, it looked to me like several visual effects weren't quite finished or were bugged, most notably some of the explosions and lighting/shader effects caused artifacts.

It reminded me very heavily of HALO, the pace, the dual weapons, the handling/physics of the jeep was a total warthog rip (and a very accurate one), and the way the crosshairs worked was also very similar to HALO (which alot of people don't like, I'm kind of on the fence myself). I will say I hated the inexplicable image distortion thing with the plasma rifle, I don't know what the hell that was for and it annoyed me.

It's important to remember that this demo is of the multiplayer component of a primarily singleplayer game, so it's not really fair to expect it to be a UT killer, that said it would be quite disappointing if that is the finished article, it really doesn't come up to the high levels of production value that one would expect from DE.

Halo and Pariah both use the Havok physic engine, so you should expect them to handle similarly. God, I hope it's better than you guys say. I've been watching the vids and have been very much looking forward to it.

Just downloaded and played it. Nice graphics but gameplay sucks. I fired off a whole clip at close range using machine gun but the guy did not die. fired off a grenade launcher and finished me in one shot.

YEOW, after reading what you guys have said about this game... now I'm scared to even download and play it. However, I might be playing this game in a few hours just for the heck of it. I need to waste some time, insomnia is a bitch for someone who doesn't need it!

Fortunately for me, I haven't had the pleasure of experiencing the horrid gameplay of Daikatana, so I will have to take on your word for it. ;)

Heres my impressions after playing for a couple of hours

1) horrible aiming reticles....is it that hard to give us a single dot or a small cross as opposed to giant circles, boxes and rectangles??

2) this is a multiplayer demo? where the hell is the ping counter!?

3) weapons are clunky and feel ineffective even when fully upgraded. You basically need to unload 2 clips into someone in order to kill them. As a result there was some major whoring with the grenade and rocket launcher because they are the most effective weapons

4) the bloom effect when running, healing and when using one of the weapons (cant remember which one) is nauseating

5) although this may be a personal preference, handling of vehicles feels horrible. I want the option of using the keyboard to drive as opposed to the mouse

6) falling tiny distances causes damage.....is absolutely absurd

7) models and animations are mediocre

8) it needs a decent load-out menu

9) server menu feels clunky

10) mouse movement feels as if its accelerated or on the highest sensitivity which gives it a floaty unnatural feel. Had to mess with the ini file but even then I couldnt get it to feel right.

11) FOV is too narrow, but is fixed by tweaking the ini file

12) very buggy in general

13) jumping feels floaty and movement is too slow, although this is probably also a personal preference. Im guessing people who play halo will like the pace

I gave it a fair go and I really wanted to like it, not only because im a loyal supporter of digital extremes/epic but also because I have been dying to get my hands on a decent multi game to tide me over until BF2.

It seems to me that they were hoping to combine elements of halo with elements of UT2004 but it just doesnt work imho. I guess ill be saving my money :(

Ok, how did you do that? Can you describe your settings that you did for the FOV?

you can actually do it in game as well

press ` to bring down the in game console

now type "fov 95" or even "fov 110"

Anyone know the command to show FPS? I was trying stat fps, timedemo 1, nothing worked.

stat fps worked for me, should display in the bottom right of the screen

I would actually agree with most of that, but if you look over the list it's all stuff that wouldn't take much for DE to fix/rebalance.
I really hope this isn't the finished product and is more akin to the beta demos that were released before UT for the purpose of balancing/polishing.

It's nowhere near a Diakatana style fuck up, that game was fundamentally wrong in just about every aspect, Pariahs issues don't run deep at all, they're mostly just tweaks.

The demo isn't that hot. But it's free, so give it a try.

The weapon upgrading is pretty cool though. If you guys want to really screw around with it, on the main menu bring the console up ( ~ ) and type: open DM-Twisted and press enter. Click your mouse button to begin. Then bring up the console once again and type: loaded.

You'll get a bunch of upgrade thingys. The default weapon upgrade menu is 'x' hold it down and select what weapon you want to juice up. You'll also be able to try out a new weapon....

Probably the most objective post in this thread.

as jay said in JaSBSB ' you are the ball lickers!" no i played it, and it sucked. this is from wikipedia: "...It is known as one of the major flops of the computer game industry."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daikatana

pariah, is not that good. much of it needs to be worked on, as many have noted.

what this game feels like to me is that the have a heavy focus on the xbox. The massive aiming reticule, the general chunky feeling, it has console all over it

so yeah, aiming blows, feels very hit and miss, which i guess if you are playing on a pad is okish, but on the pc it is very very bad.

I am out

It's most likely a straight port of the X-box version. There are several examples of devs being too lazy to optimize their ports for PC. And given that the engine has its roots on the PC, it shouldn't be ported anyway.

This mixing of development on PCs and consoles is steadily degrading the quality of PC games that are released on both platforms.

Game is supposed to be released in early may, I doubt if any of these issues are addressed

OK, so I gave it a try. I had high hopes because DE was behind UT99 and THAT is my favorite game, but I was soon disappointed.

First of all, the gameplay is really slow and gravity is like half that of Earth so jumping and stuff seemed really strange.....the same thing I noticed in Halo. Next was the life bar, it goes down when you get hurt....but it regenerates....like Halo. Vehicle controls....just like Halo.....gun animation....design...sounds....just like Halo?

Too bad I fucking hated Halo after "The Silent Cartographer" and MP was never that much fun.

"Not straying too far from their roots..." what a crock of shit. Nothing in this game reminds me of anything I've seen in any of the UT games and the gameplay reeks of Halo ripoff.

EDIT: Shit, even messing around in the options reminded me of Halo on the PC. Is this game using the Halo engine or something? Halo............HALO!
