Hey, I want to do an interim update to my system (nothing substantial; I want to wait until at least next summer to drop any real bucks) and I really need to ditch my old mobo. I'm going to stick with Socket A (and the AthlonXP) to save money, but the issue is: all the new motherboards run SATA raid as opposed to PATA, and I still have a pair of 100GB Western Digital 8MB cache HDDs that I'm loathe to give up (obviously they use the ATA100 interface).

So, the question: does anyone have any experience with the various converters out there? The only two I'm familiar with are ABIT's Serillel converter and the Highpoint Rockethead converter. Both are a bit tough to find, but I managed to find the Highpoint converter here and the ABIT one here.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone out there has used these, and if so how did they perform? Compatibility is my biggest concern...the Highpoint one mentions that it's for use with Highpoint SATA devices (the Asus and ABIT mobos I've looked at use Silicon Image controllers) and I don't really know much about the ABIT one. Anything you can toss my way would be helpful and appreciated.

no clue. but I was under the impression that the highpoint and abit adapters were one and the same.
