This editorial speculates that Sony and Microsoft are working on new innovations themselves in console controllers. If this turns out to be true, then Nintendo could certainly be playing catch up in an instant.

Never before has there been such a difference in how games are played across systems. With game companies naturally wanting to include the best parts of their competitor’s designs, while still offering their own variety of gameplay, it’s natural that there would be a pushing force, trying to center all the consoles around one type of control medium. This is also advantageous to third party producers who wish to produce games for several systems instead of just one.

I think having a variety of controllers for different types of gameplay is better than one generic type controller. For example,no gamepad can ever match keyboard/mouse control for first person shooters.

No big deal and nothing unexpected.

I'm sure Nintendo is also working on the same plus enhancing their graphics and other differentiating factors. Just normal business.

The PS3 wins in the graphics race hands down...

Did they now? I think they meant to say "The PS3 wins the poor sales and high price race hands down..."

This article just demonstrates why I think everyone needs to support Nintendo. Even if they don't like them.

While the 360 and PS3 have taken leaps forward graphics wise, they did nothing new with game play. Without Nintendo's innovation for producing new controlling techniques, controllers wouldn't be as advanced as they are now.

Even if MS or Sony releases a similar controller to the Wii's, I don't think Nintendo will really suffer. As long as they have the price advantage, they will make sales. However for Nintendo to do well next generation, they will have to have the advanced controllers, graphics, and the low price. I guarantee that MS and Sony will have motion control and add ons with their next release and they will have the advanced graphics to back it up. Sony also won't make the mistake with overpricing their consoles next time around.

Nintendo once again raised the bar on game play and MS and Sony are quickly working to not only reach the bar but jump past it. Just like MS released the xbox S controller, I await the release of something along the lines of the 360 M (for motion) controller.

There is a much smaller audience penetration for a game, however, when it requires additional accessories.

For a developer to implement the option in their game to use the sensor-controls from either MS or Sony, there must be a large user base who has the sensor controller.

It's akin to the system memory upgrade for the N64.
If there is going to be sensor controllers released for the 360 or Ps3, I don't see either of them being a success.
