So, today I get home and find one of my most prized possessions lying flat on its face on my desk, my NEC 20WMGX2. Thanks to my cat, the screen is completely wrecked.

I'm aware that this monitor is no longer in production, and it breaks my heart. I'd really love to be able to get the same one, does anyone know where, if anywhere this monitor can be purchased?

If not, what would today's equivalent be? I'm happy with 20", 1680x1050. I loved the NEC because it was so amazing for both photo work and gaming.

Please help!

Damn, I'm really sorry to hear that bro.. This is the first time ever but I actually got sad reading your post. My heart goes out to your monitor :(

I don't have one myself but the 22" Dell 2209WA seems to be pretty hot atm. It's an e-IPS panel and you can get it for around $200 if you get a deal it seems. I think the MSRP is like $230 or something. There's a huge thread about it in this display forum.

Thanks a lot man, I appreciate it. I was completely devastated:(

I'll take a look at the Dell, I'm sure it's going to be hard to live up to the NEC, but I like the fact that it's still an IPS panel.

Thanks again.

My condolences. I've owned a NEC 20WMGX2 for 3 years now and know how much it kicks ass. The good news is that the Dell 22" ips is a good bargain replacement and will look almost as good as the NEC.

I've got a pair of 20WMGX2 monitors. My brother-in-law just got a pair of Dell 2209WA monitors, and they look pretty good. I did notice they were a little darker on the right edge, but possibly only because I'd read about it. I didn't mention it to him and he doesn't seem to have noticed. It's not a perfect monitor, but it's really, really good for a $212 monitor. If my NECs bit the dust, it would not be painful to move on to the 2209WA.

Also worth considering for the 22" market is the Samsung 2232rz ($450ish) or Viewsonic 2265wm ($370ish); though they are TN, they are the only 120Hz LCD monitors on the market, which makes them very interesting for hardcore FPS gaming. I've read that they also look as good as any TN does. So, a good cheap 60Hz IPS, or a good expensive 120Hz TN? Interesting decision to make.

If you think about going up to 24", the BenQ G2400WD is probably the best TN panel, and for IPS monitors the HP LP2475w is considered slightly better even than the Dell 2408WFP revision A04.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I feel pretty confident that I won't be let down by your suggestions.

Cheers!

If you look around you may be able to find a refurbished 20WMGX2 for around $200. With a NEC warranty it is as good as new.

I have 2, one I bought new a couple of years ago, the other was a refurb purchased from tech4less. Both are boxed up since I got a HP 2475, I don't need both. I suppose I could let one go, the refurb hasn't seen much use, just a few hours of testing. It has a tiny chip in the Opticlear near the bottom, only visible on light backgrounds. The other has some image retention issues, but nothing extreme, it goes away after about 5-10 minutes (unless it burned in longer I suppose).

You may find one on e-bay ever so often, but don't count on it. PM me if you are intrested.

Thanks very much for the offer Vick, I think I've decided to go with the Dell 2209WA though, apparently it can be had for $212 with free shipping, and it looks to be a suitable replacement.

Thanks again everyone, I'll keep you updated with what I end up with, and Vick I will keep your offer in mind if I change my mind.
