How would this do for
Gaming
Web Design
Image Editing
Actual TV

I'm thinking about throwing down the cash now for it as I'm going to college in a year and this would be pretty useful as both a TV and a computer monitor. $1k500 isn't too bad at all for a plasma tv, but are there any estimated price drops I should know about coming up?

If this wouldn't be your choice, what would be? Would plasmas and LCD Tvs in general serve well for the purposes listed above? Or should I just find myself a nice 19" lcd or something, and wait until the lcd tv technology gets even better?

resolution of 852x480 on a 42" I would look into something else.. at that res on a 42" screen everything would be huge, imagine your start button the size of your foot :)
 
Well, plasmas kill LCDs in regard to image quality and burn in risk has been reduced significantly in recent years. But....at 42 inches it is heavy. And they are glass so they are fragile. And since it is a commercial model Panny you'll need to purchase blades to accomodate whatever inputs you plan to use. And since you are going to college I honestly wouldn't mess with it for the above reasons.
