No chance of a panasonic a-ips panel of having any banding, right?

I was thinking about buying one sometime in the near future.

I like my Gateway FHD 2400, but it's not perfect.
 
Also, it lacks the black frame insertion feature ("120 Hz") Is that a gimmick or something that makes a difference? Why?

There arn't any 32 inch LCDs with 120 Hz and you do not want it anyway. Unless your talking about larger sizes that are more for movies instead of gaming. most 120 Hz TVs do frame inturpolation which can cause input lag. Black frame insertion is only available on the Samsung 81F with LED backlight. It is very expensive and has questionable bernifit.

Panasonic and Samsung are the two best LCD TV out right now. Sony is over priced and has the dreaded sparkly coating.

I find Panasonic very frustrating, I think the IPS alpha panel is potentially a good all round performer but Panasonic video processing is pretty lack lustre, and non defeatable. There is also little in the way of calibration options for PC users.

I've read complaints about image/text sharpness when using PC (which may be due to the image processing rather than the panel, or use of the VGA port which is limited to something like 1366x768) and some complaints about 'ringing' when using the scaler. Lag is reported to be relatively low unless you have the IFC switched on.

You could look at some of the Hitachi alternatives - same IPS alpha panel, but maybe different screen filters and definitely different image processing, usually with a vast and overwhelming array of calibration options. Hitachi have a poor reputation for build quality compared with Panasonic

I would never use vga out. i'd just use an hdmi-->dvi cable of high quality. plus for pc use i would never use the tv's scaler, as nvidia's fx aspect scaling and centering is perfect.

i thought i read somewhere that this was a 2500:1 static cr, but now i can't find that spec listed at newegg nor panasonic's website. is it possible panasonic made a revised model with a lesser cr? if so, how likely?

the 2500:1 static contrast was one reason why i was considering this one.
