I was in the process of upgrading my AMD system and ordering RAM for the new motherboard and it supports dual channel mode.

I noticed they sell matching pairs for dual channel mode and I was wondering how effective it is to have paired RAM modules versus nonpaired from the same RAM manufacturer?

The thing with paired RAM is that it is guaranteed to work in dual channel.

It won't make as much of a difference in and AMD system, but if it's not too much more expensive, it's definitely worth it.

paired ram is just a marketing scheme.

there isnt a difference. the only benefit it has is that the 2 sticks are tested to work together, so that theres not the chance that by some crazy fluke they dont.

its not even really a marketing scheme, the price isnt that much different then buying the two sticks seperately... if any. So no, you can pretty muh buy any 2 sticks of ram (being the same size and speed I'd guess) and they'll work.
