Hey Hardforum to all the painters out there I got a wierd problem when I painted my side panel I sanded, primed, sanded, primed, then when I went to color I got these hairline cracks on the paint, and also I got some shine on my case also like this blurry side of paint just wanted to know what I did wrong? thanks guys

was the paint left outside the sun to dry?

that or bending makes the cracks don't it?

Nope the paint wasnt let outside to dry, the case wasnt bent at all maybe Ill try to get some pics of it. Any other suggestions?

I find that sanding with 2000 (wet) sand paper in between each layer of primer & paint (2 primers, 3 or 4 paint) helps, make sure you rubbed it with rubbing alchohol, and leave it outside to dry, preferably for ~24 hours (unless it's raining or cold). Also, leave it dry in a well ventalated area for at least a week, and primer/paint it in the recommended temperatures (usually between 60-80*F). Those are all the things that I can think of that would cause problems like you're having. Good luck! :)

Thx for the reply I will have to try that but could it also be me not sanding enough through primer or color?

lol, Today im starting on my other side panel btw im hand sanding all these parts :( How do i get the top part of the case off?

Alot of times it will be caused by using different types on top of each other. ie acrylic base coat and an enamel clearcoat. You can use the 2 together but you gotta makes that each coat has time to dry properpy.

car paint. dont go with the spray paint from like home depot go to your local auto parts store and get the car spray paint. it doesnt crack and it turns out a lot nicer.

Interesting, What about primer, is it okay to use regular spray paint primer?

I did use the paint from home depot which was painter touch the primer and color, I guess that had something to do with it.

Painters touch will work just fine, this was done with painters touch:

The cracks you describe are often the result of mixing laquers and enamels, as mentioned by someone else already, the cure is to strip off the paint and start over. Make sure the clearcoat and paint colors are made by the same company. Duplicolor has the best spray nozzle of any spray paint. Duplicolor is availible at most autoparts stores as mention by someone already. It is classified as an auto spray paint. painters touch will work, it goes on a bit more uneven and "chunky" than duplicolor paints. Thier clearcoat spray is also one of the best I have used. you need to allow a full 12-18 hours between coats with spray paint, get in a hurry and your only screwing yourself.
Someone mentioned auto paint, you need a ton of expensive equipment and solvents to use auto paint. Most of it has chemicals in it that will permanently scar your lungs, unless you use the proper resperator, some even require a helmet that pumps fresh air in through a hose.
When done correctly spray paint can look almost as good as car paint, really what makes car paint look so good is not the color, but the clearcoat, it has much greater shine than the stuff in a can.

Well I used painters touch primer, painters touch color and painters touch clearcoat and still happened btw nice case guys like the paint job just wished mines could have come out that way. I will have to redo the whole process again and see what happens. Thanks
