Painting my Dragon

I bought a Chieftec Dragon case from Newegg about three months ago, and I've had no problems with it whatsoever. The only problem is, I'm getting tired at looking at the thing and just seeing blue. I've decided that my Dragon needs something more than blue. I bought a fan controller (silver Vantec Nexus) at the same time as the case, and I like the way it looks. I've got four Coolermaster fans in the case, with blue LEDs, so I was thinking a silver metallic would look rather nice, and go with the fan controller.

Now, my idea was to paint the center of the front bezel and door (on the door it's the raised area, where the badge would go. On the bezel it's the venting for the fans) silver metallic, and leave the rest of the front blue. I was hoping to do it with Krylon Fusion, but there isn't a silver color for that paint. I have no experience with Vinyl Dye or painting plastic, so I was hoping for some pointers. Also, I was hoping to get some feedback on whether this color scheme will look good, or whether I will regret fucking up my case in a month or two.

My experience with silver is that unless you have a good heavy base of primer on everything, smoothed down nicely, you risk having a shitty looking paintjob with silver.

The Chieftech bezel is a bitch anyways, and requires a load of sanding to get it smooth enough to even prime it. The botom of the bezel is also hard to sand and get looking nice due to the curved shape of the "gills".

If you were careful about your sanding and masking off what you don't want painted, you could pull it off. Personally, I don't use vinyl dye or Fusion. A good wheel paint (sold at any good auto parts store) would do you fine if you have a good sandable primer underneath. Wheel paint tends to cure harder than most other paints, so once cured (~30 days), it would be really hard to chip or scratch. Argent Silver would be a good color (I think this is the color of Chevy Rally wheel of the 60's and 70's...looks very close to Aluminum IMHO)

Take your time, and you could have a cool looking front bezel of your case.

be very careful which silver you choose, many of them never dry and will fingerprint forever after. The duplicolor silver groundcoat (can be bought at autoparts stores) it one of the ebst i have seen to date, it dries very very well.
Also if you plan to clearcoat, most of the rattlecan silver paints will become cloudy or muddled if you clearcoat them. Use the clear very sparingly when spraying use very very light coats to help avoid this.

What you need is Plasti-Kote silver smoke metallic, which should be available at major auto parts stores in your area. It works beautifully, no sanding needed. My case (see sig) started life as a beige SX830, but currently the grill area is bright red. Just do a good job of masking off what you don't want colored, and you'll be good to go!
