Painting Brass?

I'm just wondering how tough it would be to paint brass effectively...

I've got a couple of brass fittings in my case that would look a hell of a lot better if they were black. Now, I'm only going to be painting the outside of the fittings (a T line and a Ball Valve) therefore water will never come into contact with it.

I'm thinking that, if I clean it exceptionally well, soak it in alcohol and apply a good primer (recommendations? Should I get a self etching primer, this piece will be impossible to sand) then paint it black with car paint and clear diamond coat it a few times... I can get a good finish. Any ideas?

you got the right idea... primer, paint... etc... got some pics so we could get a better idea about what exactly you are talking about??
