Painting a keyboard / mouse... ??

Question: When custom painting a keyboard or mouse, what should be done to prevent wear and tear from use. Sweat from your hand tends to "erode" paint so are there steps you can take to prevent this?
 
i've painted a few arcade joysticks like the hori vx-sa. not a keyboard/mouse but the case itself is always in contact with your skin. i like to sand down the case with 180-220 grit, if not scotch brite will suffice, allows the paint to hold better. as for the sweat eroding the paint, clear coat is your best friend. go light on the first few coats then heavy on the last 2-3.

here is a pic of the joystick i've painted (http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/1887/img3493gd.jpg). i take it with me to tournaments while traveling so it gets a lot of use. its only been a year but the paint held up like day one. just use quality paints/clears.
 
yep. 2 light coats of clear - let them dry to "no paint smell" dryness, then a thick layer every 1-2 hrs depending on the cans instructions for recoats. allow to fully cure.

i recommend a plastic primer, then an acrylic enamel paint, followed by an acrylic non-enamel clear. allow the colour coat 1 week to dry (up to 3 weeks if you go heavy on colour, which you should avoid). should be good for years.
