Laggy at first for me. Really get laggy if you change settings in game. Looks great, sounds great. I found that the mouse and walking seemed "floaty" not really precise. Enemies are easy and fun, the physics so far look pretty good. Im gonna restart it now. and later tonight write the second impression as all you should.

Second Impression:

Fun, Intense, cool weapons, but not what I expected. For some reason I though there would be a story involved. Theres no real motivation in the demo making its replay blah.

No saves cripples this demo.

That spinning blade weapon's damage modify needs to be increased. It doesnt do the damage it preceives. Also when you use the granade launcher its distance is ass, then need to extend it a little more when you arch it.

Sounds and environment are nice.

One thing I cant get over is how shitty it runs. I even took off AA and dropped the res from 16X12 to 1024X768 and it ran the same.

What I do like about the PAIN engine is it slows the game down rather then chugs, this helps you work a lot easier through the tough times. Though on my machine there should be no tough times.

Lastly, I cant get past the stupid part where those Shaman looking guys use the dead bodies to fuck you up. I dodge them and kill other guys but not them.

I noticed one time he through his staff at me and he looked like he died. I tried to go in and back out to provoke then dodge the staff but it didnt work. Anyone get past it?

All in all, expectations aside, I like this game. If they can fix this annoying slowing down, and make it run how its supposed to this will be a blast to play.

ps. Lovin the spear gun up close! You get to see those fuckers fly!

runs well for me, only when a buttload of enemies are on the screen does it slow down

1280*1024 2xAA 8xAF looks great

If you're using the video card in your sig that's the problem right there.

whats so special about this game graphically?

I play a lot of games on this set up and this is the first to give me this kind of problem.

i read some articles on the new engine for it...its really vid card heavy...ur card just doesnt have the shading skillz needed...ebay it before its worthless and get ur self a 9800pro...it'll be worth it when hl2 and doom 3 eventually hit, they gonna push every computer to its limits

Grabbing the demo now.. Excellent.. time to give my 9800 pro some real food :p

all ya need is one gun. and it's the default weapon... if you alt-fire it'll shoot out and stick to the wall. if you aim your crosshairs at it it'll form a laser type effect. run around and get some baddies caught in it. will eat em up super fast. i hope they do animation for the pulling of the guns out and such. sorta seems a bit killer when the guns just appear. i know it's a graphic funfest shoot em up... but i guess i just like some bit of professionalism...

i am hoping for a super awesome storyline to drive this. about the only that'd make me wanna get it. i'd pay maybe 20, 30 at absolute max. the mulitplayer should be pretty neat. and graphically it's pretty damn awesome. at 1600x1200 with every in game setting and every video card (6xAA and 16xAF) maxed it also put the 9800 through it's paces with a ton of guys on screen.

some explanation as to what you're main goal is would be nice. every 100 or so souls i turned into a demon type thing which absolutely ruled. like what's with the red swirls, green swirls and etc. only after playing for a while did i notice that the green swirls are souls, you want them because that's when ya turn into that demon thing. and i guess if you do certain objectives you get cool new abilities. but they never told ya what it was so you couldn't really do it.

and that hammer demon 100 foot tall guy was nifty. of course it screwed with my eyes big time. what with perception and all. (hint: use the machine gun ya get to blast his hammer, then then that's gone unload on him)

HRslammR gives the demo 4/5 stars. clear up those issues and put a good storyline behind and it's a surefire hit. the graphics are there.

i feel like i'm working for an online game review site.

Fun Demo.

Serious Sam type games kind of bore me, but it should be a fun game if there is a bit of a story line.

Yea I got that demon ability a few times.

Also managed to make it to the Palace, holy shit if you walk in to get the armor your doomed, I guess you gotta work your way around the room then get in. It turns to mayham quick

Im not really an ATI fan I see to many ATI complaints on this board, more then Nvidia. I know its a faster card in some aspects then the new FX and its the official card of HL2 but Im just not comfortable switching sides for some reason, brand loyalty I guess.

i wonder if it will play on my 8500...?

i'll give it a shot tomorrow, but i think it may be time to get my ass a job and a new computer...:(

fun game, runs JUST FINE on my old ass GF4 4600 TI, maxed out at 1024.. the game itself reminds me of a mixture of quake1, serious sam, and doom.. its mindless fun zombie wasting and i love that bezerk mode whatever its called where your enemies turn red, too cool.. i think MP would be tons better though.. overall i like it, its new that borrows several elements from many past sucessful games

They packed so much into this demo.. you even get to fight a MASSIVE boss. Also, its like the game was made for my computer, 1280x1024 with maxed in game settings and it runs like silk.. even with 60 baddies on screen, I notice no slowdown.. looks like it was a good idea to buy my 9800 when i did :)

i used to be a geforce fanboy...i was just in the market when the 9800 was new and the 5800 sucked...for me the switch wasnt bad at all...ati has really picked up their game and nvidia has been starting to slack...bit too confident i guess....consider switching sides

Ditto on the ATI and nVidia. I was a nVidia fan boy until they got shown up. ATI hasn't been problematic for me really. But that's off topic to this thread and I should shut up now.

I am still downloading this thing, T3 and I'm gettin 23k/sec off of 3dgamers *sigh*

I pretty much used default settings and I was able to play half of it with my calculator I call a computer (P3 1000, GF4 4200, 384 Ram). Unfortunatly I ran out of time and could not finish. It slowed down considerably a few times. Figuring that I don't meet the minimum requirements, I can't complain. I am getting a new system shortly, so no biggie.

I really hope that the game has some kind of story line to it. It doesn't have to be a novel, but something to "fight" for. I am looking forward to the full game.

painkiller runs fine on my old rig. the graphics look good at 1024-768 and the only slowdowns, so far, are when i'm hit with a magic spell. painkiller is a serious sam type game for ghouls but without the save game function(People can fly will have to fix that before i buy the game.) the only storyline i've seen so far is on the painkiller web site http://www.painkillergame.com/ of course i'm still on the town level, replaying it so i can buy a card(Hit tab to see your score and then you'll know what you should be doing to complete the level.) i haven't found any secrets yet, i've been pushing the carts around trying to jump into windows and doorways with no luck. i even tried shooting a line of stakes up a wall to use as stairs with no luck so i'll take any spoilers here. the slow reload time for the stakegun takes a little getting used too as does the pause before a killed character's soul comes out.
if your going to grab this demo use fileshack its the fastest i've found.http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/30550
note: the sp demo has save/load disabled, it will work if you buy the game.
so far i've found 2 secret areas each with a holy relec in the town level.
possible SPOILER!
==============================================

i got killed twice and found you keep your gold so you can buy cards to help get through the town level. silver card=150 health(constant effect), gold card=2x damage(use once only)

this game is really scary, i had to quit after the first level. Then again every game scares me, including quake , q2, blood, blood 2, doom, doom 2 and, half-life, thet are all to much for me.

It's a swwet game.

Very reminisicent of Blood 1&2....

Awesome.

Using my 4200 I can run it at medium with no slow downs.

LOL, I'm sorry, but are you four?

Is there any way to control when you become the berserk/demon guy? It really sucks when you're stuck in normal mode fighting fucking hundreds of guys, and yet you turn into berserk when nobody's around because you collected a soul.

graphically the game is pretty impressive ...the ambient sounds are cool as well ...game plays silky smooth at 1280x1024 with 4xmultisampling ... gameplay is pretty fun , just mindless shooting tho ..good stress relief i guess:)

pretty good game, but i cant see myself play it for more than 20 at a stretch - too mindless! awesome graphics with everything maxed out on my system!

i think this demo is f'n awesome! LAN or multi PK would be increadible, its just so much fun. Also, is this the same physics engine that HL2 is gonna use, because ive made alot of stuff roll and move all over the place, and it looks like the hl2 videos. its says the name of the physics engine on the PK site, can anyone verify it its the same as HL2 (or simmiliar atleast).

agreed. i try and time it so that i'm getting that 50th soul juuuust as there's huge group of folks chasing me.

man that's fun.

i'm actually some what impressed that the AI at least tries to move and dodge. instead of just mindlessly running at you. well of course they do, but the effort is nice. :)

it's a cool game but just needs some tweaking to be a great game.

I like it, it's kind of mindless, but it's a gorgeous looking game (does it use DX9?). 1024x768/4x AA/8X Aniso/max settings and I get the slowdown when all the zombie thingies show up on screen at the same time.

Then I got this weird static in my speakers when I reached the part where all the demons keep spawning and stopped because the sound was driving me insane.

more like im the type that likes a game with substance rather than shooting zombies throwing limbs or whatever they are throwing at you, boring and stupid. CS > *

its not the hl2 engine...the only thing thats the same is they use a modified havok 2 physics engine

id imagine hl2 code is dam expensive to license and not very worth it for a semi-niche game

My impression that is a great graphics game it played well with my 9600. I really enjoy that things all around you are happening ladders moving and stuff.

The graphics are great. I played twice the first time to get screenies and the second to play. It got boring quick.

I think that it could be a much better game if there was more than collecting coin, souls, or what not.

Just played it and it looks pretty good reminds me a lot of quake. Playing at 1280x1024 and it was extremly smooth even with 2X/4X. For anyone who reads my posts about fps you know if I say it's smooth you can believe it. ;)

Oh my! This is one of the few demos I have played all the way through. Great graphics, great audio effects, GREAT GAME!

i hope in MP you can stick other players with the stake gun and it sticks in them, and possibly if they have low health they would stick to the wall when they died and stay stuck. its the stupid stuff like staking people into the wall and watch their ragdoll hang that makes painkiller so cool to me. it would make for some satisfying MP.

just played through it ... definatly feels like the orginal quake ... it'll be fun for a while, definatly a niche title ...

Meh.... another generic shooter with no innovations. This game would impress me 3 years ago, but now, been there, done that (*yawn*).

Interesting/unique weapons. I loved landing my claw (whatever it is) in a wall, then just strafing around a huge pack of enemies taking them out with the claw's laser beam.

Lots of enemy designs, with different mobs for each area, to keep things interesting. AI is quite good. I was at the top of a set of stairs, firing my claw at mobs. Most would run back down the stairs, or jump to either side, and most ended up avoiding my attacks.

But... LOTS of mobs. Wow. After awhile it got a little old. I hate games that, instead of throwing tougher enemies at you, they'll just throw 5x as many enemies at you.

I know it's paying homage to the FPS of old, and that's how it was designed. That may be good for some, but I want a plot, dangit :D

Played through once, then uninstalled.
