Usually when I get a new computer or reformat, the first thing I do in Windows is to turn off the page file, defragment, then create a new page file 2.5 times the size of my RAM. This is so that it's one piece and sits at the front of the hard drive.
But how necessary is it really to do this? How much benefit do you get, vs. just letting Windows manage it?
I'm soon getting a new computer with 1GB of RAM, and I was wondering if it was really necessary to make a 2.5GB page file.
