I can boot into windows and run everything (seemingly) fine at 2690 mhzm, but if I run prime 95 I automatically halt. I'm idling at 36 degrees which is apparently cool enough to run at. How come I am failing prime95? Am I killing my CPU?

P.S. I'm at 1.425 v

I think its because your not giving enough voltage, if your only at 36C load then you got plenty of headroom, just make sure not to go above 60C load.

Its somewhere in the bios, it should say something like CPU voltage all you do is set it at 1increment higher till you get a stable clock.

Alright I got my voltage down. I can clock at 2.6 but core 1 quits after a couple seconds with voltage at 1.425

Would it be acceptable to leave it alone or would that result in an early death to my CPU?

If your temps fine I would think it wouldn't affect the lifespan, but if you leave the voltage like that you will get errors in programs and such so that it might currupt data and won't run as stable as if you got no errors.

You need to up the voltage if its failing Prime and your wanting to run that speed. Thats all you can do if its the CPU thats not stable outside of trying to improve the cooling more. I wouldn't be afraid to give it at least 1.45-1.478V. I probably wouldn't go much over 1.5V though with aircooling on an Opteron that runs 1.35V stock for 24/7 usage. You should usage a combination of VID and Special VID in your DFI BIOS settings to set the voltage. For example setting the VID to 1.3V and the Special VID to 112% would give you 1.456V.

I don't quite understand the whole VID, Special VID concept. Are there any guides on it?

P.S. This is all on the stock cooler.
