Having a problem with a new build I just put together.

Here are the specs:

Corsair Vengeance 4x4gb ddr3 1600
Corsair HX1000 PSU
i5 3570k (stock)
P8PZ77
GTX680
H100 CPU Cooler

Whenever I boot up the computer (these are the first few boots, haven't even gotten into Windows yet) the fan on the 680 spins really loud and I get no display. If I unplug the DVI cable from the 680 and pop it in the onboard, display works fine. This is happening with both a gtx680 and a gtx480. The 680 is new, and the 480 I know works for sure as I had been using it in the past.

I've ran into this same problem with a R3E + i7 930 + 6gb ram kit (all completely seperate of what I am using right now) so I'm thinking the problem might be somewhere else and I'm completely missing it.

The computer works fine with the onboard video card, but refuses to work when I plug in a gtx480 or a 680, what gives?
 
The only time I ever observed a similar happenstance was when my PCIe power cables were loose and the GPU wasn't getting any power besides what the motherboard supplied. Might want to double check those connections or try another PSU?
 
I was leaning towards the power supply myself.. actually I got it to boot ONE time out of 10 with the gtx480 plugged in, but haven't been able to get that to happen again.

I tried using different rails on the power supply and different cables, didn't help unfortunately. I guess I should consider purchasing another PSU at this point.
 
The HX1000 should be overkill for the system and I think Corsair has a 5 or 7 year warranty on the PSU. Might be able to RMA it if you have to.
 
wasn't the power supply :(

at a loss for what to try next. have tried 2 diff motherboards, cpus, video cards, sets of ram. still the onboard video card works but any pci-e card does not show any display
 
Check the settings around which video card gets initialized first and make sure you have the GPU overclocking crap disabled.
 
^ Good idea. Do you have any other PCIe devices, preferably not a GPU, that you could try in that slot? It wouldn't be the first time a motherboard had a bad PCIe slot...
