For gamers, there is little need for i7 unless running dual gfx cards.
I have no need for it, my clocked E8400 is splendid quick.
 
I honestly think I'm going to wait as well. My E8600 is freakin rocking right now. I have more CPU than I need. I just need nVidia to pull their head out of their *** .
 
For a new platform, the P6T is surprinsigly ''rock-stable'' in my system. Not a single crash or BSOD in the last 2 weeks, 24/24 with my i7 920 at 3.6. :) The easiest OC I ever did. :)

I'm doing alot of editing/encoding with gigantic HD video files and Blu-ray writing, and also alot of Photoshop editing, so for me, i7 was a must. :)
 
I voted I7 without P6T, but it'll be after the die shrink, so it'll be quite a while before I build it. Even then it won't be Asus, and it won't be with an "X" series chipset.
 
The P6T seems to be the best/most stable i7 board out there. It's impossible to go wrong with the P6T if you're doing an i7 build.
 
I have P6T and i7 on NewEgg shopping cart and will pull the trigger sometime this week, barring any huge news.
 
No i7 for me... I just recently got an E8400. My budget is low so when I can put together an i7 + mobo + ram for less than $200, I will then think about it.

Buy it using live.com cashback dude. I got my board/chip/memory for just over 700 bucks including shipping. Multiwavevideo is mwave's ebay store.

My budget may be unrealistically low, but may be in a year or two, it won't be?

As for C2Q prices, southern CA Fry's (or any Fry's for that matter) has decent combo sales here and there. Just a few weeks ago, there was a small selection of C2Q's for less than $200 with a cheap ECS motherboard (Q6600 @ $120, Q8200 @ $130, Q9300 @ $160, Q9450 @ $200). Of course, it was all dependent on stock in hand. Unfortunately, I didn't even consider getting a C2Q that time because I was enticed by the out of stock E7200 for $60. Even the E4500 for $50 was sold out. Thinking back, I shouldn't have been stubborn and got a C2Q (I had a mindset on getting the E8400, until I got it).

Edit: I also keep my budget low because I can easily spend money on stuff I don't need.

i got almost my entire i7-920 x58 system using ms cashback through ebay as well. techtreasure is also mwave through ebay. i have yet to choose a mobo, though i'm torn between the evga, p6t oc palm and the gigabyte boards. what sucks is i procrastinated so long that ms cashback is down to 20% on ebay now vs the 30%.:(

one more thing, i was reading in the psu sub-forum and noticed many don't like the antec quattro 1000w psu. does anyone have any input whether this is a quality psu that's capable? i got one 4870 x2 and plan to go crossfire in the future. thanks!
 
You'll see nehalem CPU/mobo combos at the $200 pricepoint by Q4 next year, but they wont be bloomfields. They'll be dual cores (4 threads) and basic G51 based mobos. IDK if the GPU will be on the mobo or on the southbridge, probably the former. But they'll be available. And they'll still be DDR3.

How much money are you getting back for everything??
 
well, i left my tally at home, but everything minus the mobo came out to around $2000 retail. so basically i saved $600 in cashback for a total of approximately $1400. i already have a 28" monitor.

a comperable dell would cost in excess of $2500, give or take and i almost went the pre-built route.
 
if my eclipse turns out to be a turd, I am going P6T.
 
The P6T is a solid board, but I'm waiting for the Blood Rage to come out before I make my final decision.

Hate to ask this here but I can't post in the hot deals forum yet. I was planning on using this exact ebay cashback plan and ordering a core i7 setup today but it seems like the cashback thing for ebay is gone.
I just took for granted that it would remain throughout the holiday season but I was dismayed to not see it when I used the "cheap wii" trick on live about 10 minutes ago. :(
Will this be coming back any time soon does anyone know?
 
P6T & i7 920 @ 3.6 on stock cooling no less, 100 % stable. Very happy with it, can't wait to get my True to OC some more.
 
What settings are you using for that runudownquick? core voltage? uncore voltage? memory settings? How about a picture?

I would like to buy a P6T, but I saw somebody on newegg saying there was a ethernet issue with all the P6T boards. I know newegg reviews aren't that credible but I just wanted to check; has anyone else experienced this?

Don't always listen to those reviews, your best bet is to see how people are using this board here, i will tell you its one of the best boards I have ever used.

QFMFT, I haven't had any ethernet issues at all and I'm constantly transferring large (1-500GB) across my network and I've not had a problem.
 
Ok, cool. I am looking at: Core i7 920, P6T Deluxe, 6GB DDR3 (not sure what speed is best as I don't plan to overclock). Any recommendations on a CPU cooler?
