Anyone know if the WD 3TB drive works off the Intel ICH10 or Marvell SATA III controller? I would like to replace my 1tb with a 3tb but I don't want to have to run the external Card. I know that Seagate has one out that bypasses it with software but I prefer WD for its noise. Also the Segate is a 7200 rpm drive and I am trying to go as quiet as possible.

All P67 mobos have either UEFI or a modified bios that allows booting off 3TB hard drives, so you are golden.

I think all of them anyway.

The Hitachi 3tb Drive is cheap @ 129.99 on Newegg. Anyone know how it compares to the WD? This is just a media storage drive so speed is no concern but silence is.

I feel like punching myself in the face for having paid $200+ for 300GB HDDs a few years back lol

Join the club.. I still have the first 2tb that came out running strong in a media setup. 300$ for that bad boy. I want to go pickup this Hitachi because its so cheap but if its noisey I don't want it.

In 1996 I paid $350 for a 2.5 GB, it was the first new hard drive I was able to afford. The same day I bought 32 MB of RAM for just over $100 after rebate.

3TB 7200RPM for storage?

I'm looking at the 3TB drives also but would like to stay at 5400RPM.

There's a WD 3TB Green drive but for 180.00....I'll wait and "make do" with the 2TB units. :)

I don't want 7200 rpm for storage. That's why I am avoiding the Seagate. Not sure how good the Hitachi is though. 180 for the WD or 130 for the Hitachi. Long as its quiet and dependable ill get the Hitachi but I can't find any reviews that go over noise.

heck, way back when i can remember paying over $300 for a 340 MEGA byte drive to supplement my original 210MB; I thought it was huge!

Lol yeah, I wasn't around then, my first computer was some old IBM that ran DOS, nothing tooooo ancient. BTW forum hot tip - hit that little quote button to generate the quotes like you see in other people's post's, billt ;)

But yeah, I'm also interested to know how these drives are, I might need a new storage drive come summer.
