Last night I got my new core duo system from newegg in. I got it all loaded up with windows and office. I loaded all the updates. Then I ran a Super PI to see what it could do. 30 Seconds 1m Test .. not too great but whatever. I then decided I was going to O/C the system and see what I could get out of it. I slightly modified the O/C settings in the BIOS and now the system will not POST.
Before I go any further here are the specs
P5N32-SLI Plus
Intel Core-Duo E6300
EVGA Nvidia 8800 GTS 640 meg
2 x 1GB Corsair PC2-5400 DDR2-675
Wester Digital Raptor 150g
OCZ Gamestream 700w
Okay, back to it. I am getting no POST beep codes. This system powers up normally. All fans come on, all drives, green light on motherboard.
I pulled the power cord, switched the CMOS jumper, plugged it back in, powered it up and NADA.
I pulled the power cord, CMOS battery, and left the CMOS jumper in the reset position. I put the battery back in and powered it up and still nothing.
I tried pulling 1 memory stick out and booting with only 1 stick. No go. I tried booting with no memory. No beeps.
I unplugged everything except the video card, cpu, motherboard and the ram to eliminate anything else. I still dont get any post beep codes when I remove the memory.
Last night, I pulled the CMOS battery out and have left it out for over 12 hours. I am going to try and put it back in when I get home and see if that works.
Through all this the motherboard always had a green light. 24 pin power connector connected and 2x 4 pins connected.
I bought the wrong memory with this system and I can't help but wonder if that is part of my problem. I meant to buy PC2-6400 DDR2-800 and accidently purchased the wrong one on newegg. Either way, I know it worked with the PC2-5400 DDR2-675 long enough to fully load windows XP pro and MS office 2003 and all the updates.
CPU-Z showed that this memory was not using the timings and voltage it was supposed to be. I think it is supposed to 4-4-4-12 and 2.1v and I believe CPU-Z showed it as 5-5-5-18or something.
I'm running out of options. I'm thinking I may just go ahead and buy some PC2-6400 memory and test that. The fact that I get no POST beeps whatsoever with no memory though isnt a good sign...
If you guys have any ideas or questions, please let me know. Thank you.
