Hi all, I just upgraded my CPU to a Q9550. All went well until I powered the PC on and it stayed on for a few seconds then shut off. I figured out the problem for some reason my case shorted out my board, well all the USB's do not work. I took off the front panel to clean the case inside and out. I think something happend when I plugged the front panel wires back in. If I turn the PC on and play with the front power wires it stays on, and only stays on the ASUS logo show. All other PC parts are fine, CPU, Vid card etc all fans ok. So my question is Im going to buy the exact same board and and a new case and not install Win 7 again. Hell no lol. Since its the same board all Im going to do is reinstall the mobo chipset drivers, would this be ok?

windows 7 isnt picky about chipsets anymore.. sometimes you run into trouble between changing processors going from amd to intel and vise versa.. but as far as the problem goes have you tried unplugging everything from the front panel? have you narrowed the messed up wire between the reset or power switch? or is your case one of those ones that have all the wires on a single plug? because if its either the power or reset switch you can use the reset switch as the power switch.. had to do that with one of my older cases.. also did you update your bios before installing the q9550?

After it booted I took off the front panel while it was running, and still while the pc stayed on, not one USB worked. I even tried different keyboards, and nothing. I might get a PS/2 keyboard just to check but I think the USB's are gone. :/ Yes I updated the BIOS to the latest one, 1301 my board supports up to a Q9650 with a bios of 0701 so I'm well ahead of that. I used to have a Q6700, I even put it back and same thing. But yeah, good to hear that Win 7 is not picky plus its the same exact chipset and board when I buy the new one.
 
Oh one more thing, when I do replace my board with the same one, I'm guessing I have to reinstall my Sound blaster x-fi, and video card drivers again?

nope you wont have to reinstall those.. just replace the board with what ever you want and windows should take care of the rest.. all the drivers you installed before will be there.. shouldnt be a problem..

And going to buy the P5N-D from microcenter. Cool I'll just put it all back together, and when it boots up, windows should see its the same mobo, sound card and vid card drivers. Easy enough :)
