Has anyone tried a 6300 or 6400 on this board and gotten a good overclock? Haven't seen any reviews or anything about this board and conroe.. couple of reviews were showing 920's at like 4.5ghz

Pretty cheap mobo and I really like the 3 ide channels.. if this board can overclock decently I'd like to snag it and a 6300.. just need to know if anyone out there uses one :)

i haven't seen or even heard of a 945p running over 360fsb --well maybe one did 380 but i can't recall i think it was the gigabyte --

well the price on the asus is very close to what a foxconn 965p is and the gigabyte 965p-s3 is only $116 and its a known overclocker . so i figure it depends on how much you like the asus and how much you need the extra ide's . i figure it being an asus it will surely have some overclocking features . to me the 6400 or the not yet out--e4300 would be a closer fit cause the 7x multi on the 6300 is going to be a damper if you can't get some really high fsb like the 965p's.but i could be wrong--i know the gigabyte s-3 945p has a 600fsb in the bios !

If you've already got the board make sure you check the revision, as only 2.0 and higher can take conroes.

Nope, don't have the board.. newegg sells the Rev2.0 boards as a completely seperate item (I don't think Asus makes the pre-2 ones anymore)

But it doesnt sound like that chipset is going to overclock very well

Hi guys :)

I just upgraded to an E6300 with a P5LD2, and it's working wonderfully. Overclocked to 2.45GHz (350MHz FSB) without any problem at all, but anything higher and SATA won't work. I can get the board to run fine at 2.8GHz (400MHz FSB!!!) as long as I only use IDE drives, but SATA refuses to work. Setting the PCI-E frequency manually does nothing - upon reboot just a blank screen. Anyone got any ideas?

Because 2.8GHz is much sweeter than 2.45GHz :p

the 945 chipset was only designed with 200 FSB in mind, so you're lucky to hit 300+ FSB. Its just a limitation that you have to deal with on an older chipset.

where the 965 chipset was designed with 266 & 333 in mind, so 400 is no problem for it.

Well looks like I'll have to stick with 350MHz FSB if that seems good for this setup... or else use IDE instead of SATA. Still I'm not complaining, nice speed boost from an XP1800+
