P5E3 Premium problem

Hey everyone,

I'm having an issue with my latest build :( I recently purchased:

C2D E8500 (I believe the stepping is E0, SLB9K)
Asus P5E3 Premium Wifi
ocz3x16004gk (pc3 12800, 7-7-7 @ 1.9v, 2x2gb modules - uses intel xmp)
Enermax Modu82+ 625W
Antec P182
Thermalright HR-01-Plus

in addition to a single Inno3D 8800GTX.

I put it together this morning and discovered that the Enermax (appears) to be DOA. I get a little bit of power out of the unit, just enough for basically one fan rotation, then it shuts down and starts repeating that short power burst once every 10 seconds or so. So I ripped it out and put in a spare Corsair HX520 and sure enough the systems powers up. Unfortunately I get no graphics output.

My initial suspicion was that the CPU might not be supported in the shipped BIOS revision, so I pulled it out and put in a spare E6600 from my previous build but the issue is still the same. I'm trying to find a speaker since the P5E3 and P182 don't have one, but my suspicion is it isn't even attempting to POST.

I tried to boot with one memory module (alternated, tried each module separately, together, different slot combinations). I was under the impression that memory should be fully supported on the board, if anyone has any suggestions they'd be much appreciated.

The 8800's fan does get powered on about 3-4 seconds after the case and PSU fans.

My other concern was with the mounting of the HR-01-Plus on this board. The space around the CPU area is very tight, and the side mounting brackets may be making contact with the Yageo R68 inductors, I don't think they're exerting any pressure on them, but it's difficult to tell.

Quick edit: Just tried a spare 9800gt and still no output (monitor recognised an attached cable, but stays in power save mode).

Double edit: USB devices don't get power while it's "on" with no display either.

Go ahead and just short the power pins with a screw driver to try to boot up the system. With each failed boot, try swapping the memory around, as well as the processor.

Also, what do you mean that neither motherboard has a speaker? Are you trying to say that there is no header for a speaker on the motherboard? I've never heard of one not having that pin header.

Look at your motherboard manual to find it, and if you have a spare case you don't care much about and has an easily removable speaker, hook it up to the header and see what you get for beeps.

Yeah I tried stripping it down to basics out of the case, it's a no go. I just put the CPU in my IN9-32X MAX and booted up in the same case with the same psu and graphics card and it's all good -- which narrows it down to mobo/memory.

I mean neither the motherboard or the case have a speaker, and nor do any of the spare cases I have laying around. I'll probably just grab one from a mate this week.

ASUS support basically told me to RMA the board. They didn't confirm whether they had any reports of memory compatibility issues with the OCZ stuff, so I put in a request to OCZ to see if they had any confirmation. Either way, I think I'll just RMA the board since the PSU has to go anyways and I won't be able to complete the build until it's back.

That mobo is known to have issues with that OCZ ram. difficult to get stable. read OCZ forum
 
Bump.

Just got both the board and PSU back from RMA and still no go - powers on but no display output.

Tried a Powercolour 4870, 8800GTX, 7200GS still no go.

Also tried XM3X1024-1066C7 corsair sticks since I thought it could be the OCZ sticks -- no go.
 
New board and PSU and still problem, I think it may be other parts or operator's error somewhere...Have you tried with just one stick of memory? And try it in each slot, one at a time?

And probably a dumb question, but did you plug in the 12V connector?

And yeah, the AUX power connector is in firmly. This is driving me absolutely nuts.

Yeah, that would absolute drives someone nuts. The last option is to take it to local PC shop and have tested there (for a fee, of course). Second last option is if you can trust someone enough to ship your board somewhere to be tested...like an online member here who has enough credit to be trustworthy. Not too many people would trust someone enough to such degree to ship things out like that and neither do too many people would just do that for someone who they don't know. Awhile back, I was willing to test someone mobo for him (for free if would pay to ship the board to me and have it picked up at his own expense), but I think he finally figured it out. This would have to be the very last option. Most people would just store the mobo away, sell it or just trash it because the headache that involves.
