hi all,

need help on my new PC, my TT Armor Junior case has a front panel audio plug with two heads which marked with "azalia" and "AC97", both will fit into the SupemeFX II card that comes with P5E, I plugged the Azalia head into the SupemeFX II card. now my front panel(for my case, it's actually top panel) audio output has no problem, but mic doesn't work. i tried plugging mic at the back, it works but just very low volume, I have put the mic vol to max. also when mic is plugged into the back, when i mute the mic vol, I can still record with the sound recorder?!?!?

I just need the mic to work properly at front panel socket. any ideas? thanks.

EDIT: After posting the following, I got one more idea: poke around in your drivers or control panel. The HD audio front-panel specification allows for the two front panel ports to be reconfigurable. So your microphone jack may be currently configured as an output or second headphone jack. There may be an option in the driver/control panel to force it to be an input. If it's there, you should be in good shape. If not.....

---original post---

First, make sure the boost is enabled on your mic. Make sure Advanced Controls is checked in the Options menu of the Volume Control applet. Go to Options->Properties->Recording, and make sure Mic is checked.

You should see an "Advanced" button under the mic input. Click on that, and make sure you enable Microphone Boost. That will take care of your quiet mic problem. Muting the microphone on the playback tab will not prevent you from recording the mic input. It just keeps the mic from being amplified immediately through your speakers.

For the front panel thing, it turns out that Intel et al decided to change the front panel audio header without telling everyone. And they decided to use the exact same header. If you're lucky, your front-panel headphone jack will work, as yours did. But the microphone won't. Often, you'll have an option somewhere in the BIOS or in the driver to disable HD audio for the front panel. In many cases, that will force the header to revert to AC97 mode, which your case will happily accommodate using the "AC97" connector.
