P5B-E, where do I measure Ram voltage

Guys,
I made the mod to crank up my Memory voltage but I can't figure where to measure the result. I have the 20K pot set 1/2 way so I'm safe with about a .1v boost(2.2v) but I want to go to 2.4v but only if I can monitor it. I sure don't want to overshoot and fry the memory.
I don't suppose this voltage is monitored my the mobo since I see no readings of it.

You need a multimeter to check the actual voltage..... I hate to sayit but what you did was very stupid, you never do a voltmod w/out a multimeter.......
 
Got a meter, know how to mod, just want to tweak it up a bit.
Anyone know where to measure it?

Found the place to measure, my initial boost was only .05v. I boosted it .3v, now I have 2.1v to 2.4v which works perfectly with my Patriot ram.

Of course you are 100% correct even though I had the meter I should have checked it before I fired it up. Sometimes us EE's get a bit careless, thanks for the reminder.
 
Can you do me a favor and check what the vdimm is after clearing the cmos? I have problems with my rams not booting at 1.8v so if doing the mod can increase the default vdimm to 2.2v from 1.8v that will help me greatly.... thanks
 
I can tell you right now without clearing the cmos that the offset added (.3v in my case) will be present on powerup. If your bios default was 1.8v then after the mod it would boot at 1.8v + offset. This voltage is not monitored and runs open loop so the mobo does not really know what the resultant voltage is. It commands a certain voltage and expects it to be there.

If you bump up the ram voltage in bios then I suspect it boots immediately using that value. I had the same problem you are describing, my board would not boot at all with my ram, this is what I did. I put one of the sticks in the fridge to cool it down. After about 1/2 hour I plugged it in and the mobo booted. I went straight into bios and cranked the voltage up to 2.1v. It's booted consistently from then on out. I think that all you'll have to do if you default your bios.

However, if you really need me to check it I will. Just look at it as a last resort because I'll have to redo all my bios settings :(.
