P4C800E shutdown issue

I recently reassembled an old rig with a P4C800E mobo. After getting everything installed and the OS loaded I hit the shutdown button and it freezes up. It will restart fine, but on shutdown it hangs.

I have isolated the problem to the IDE drive on the SEC_IDE mobo port. No matter what drive I try (tried several), when a drive is connected to this port it hangs. If I disconnect the drive completely from the port it shuts down fine. Odd, eh? The drive is recognized fine in BIOS as master on the SEC_IDE port. Drive jumper is master. No other drives on that cable.

I have researched online and found others with shutdown issues with the P4C800E, but no links to the same specific issue.

Any suggestions? Any setting in BIOS I might try differently? Anyone else had a similar issue?

Some more research led me to this thread where another user was having the exact same problem. I am running Win Server 2003 just like the user in the thread and am experiencing the exact same issue:

Apparently, the user reformatted to XP and the problem went away.

Anyone know how Win2K3 Server manages ACPI differently? What setting might prevent proper shutdown?
