My girlfriend bought me xms4400 ram I have an p4c800-e mobo .I'm having all sorta of problems getting it to run properly. It is running extremely slow 3800 benchmarks in sandra ..Can someone please tell me what needs to be changed in the bios to get this ram to work properly I currently also have a 2.8c CPU was thinking about going to a 3.2 will that help at all in all this

Thanks in advance for any help

Cyrus,

You need to change a couple of settings in the bios prior to you wanting to overclock the beast......

Spread Spectrum: Disabled
Legacy USB Support : Disabled
ICH Delayed Transaction: Enabled
If your using a soundcard, just disabled the AC97 SOund Max Audio.
Try to disable all the onboard options that you dont need to stabilized your O'c........

AI Overclocking Tuner: Manual
CPU External Frequency: 200 (+5 or +10 increments)
Dram Frequency: 400
AGP/PCI: 66/33

CPU Vcore Voltage: 1.5V
DDR Reference Voltage: ?????? Check how much volt does your xms starts off........or set it at 2.75V
AGP Vddq: 1.5V once you experience instability bump it into 1.6V just take things slowly....
Performance MOde: Auto (It is disabled on this mode once you reached the most stable Oced then you can set this to turbo or standard)

If you experienced any crashes just keep upping voltage....also the agp vddq voltage shares it source not only to the agp but to the northbridge as well....so dont forget to set it at 1.7 or 1.8.....
Just make sure you know what the default voltage your corsair ram before start tweaking.............

goodluck,,,,

henessey thanks for the detailed write up .few questions do I need to manualy put in the timing at 3448 and if so which ones are these in the bios

Thanks again

Cyrus,

Go under "Chipset Configuration" Disable the Configure DRAM Timing by Speed and you should see a list of settings e.g. Cas,Ras,etc.................

Dont forget to set the MPS at 1.4

Goodluck......

Thanks again for the all the help. I know the timings are 3-4-4-8
but in the bios there are 5 parts
dram cas Latency (which i know is the 3)
dram ras precharge
dram cas to cas
dram precharge delay
dram burst length

Sorry I am a new at this whaich section gets what option.

Currently I have my 2.8 at 3.25 and it's stable looking for more though. In your opion would it be better with this ram to start with a 3.2 or will the 2.8 be better since it should reach higher FSB speeds

Thanks again

I would recommend tightening your memory timings, especially since you are only at 232 (928) now and you should be able to do at least 266 (1064).

Maybe try 2-3-3-8, it should improve your benchmarks a little

those hynix chip based memory chips truely detest Cas-2 no matter how slow you run the memory. 2.5 is a bit more do-able.

OK but which setting in the Bios below gets which value

dram cas Latency
dram ras precharge
dram cas to ras
dram precharge delay
dram burst length

Thanks again
