P4 vs Xeon ... A64 vs Opteron

Hi there,
i'm building a new system and i'm choosing the CPUs. Well, this system will be used for graphic design and multimedia ... and some games too

Between P4, Xeon, Athlon64 and Opteron what do you think would be the better choice?

P4 3.6Ghz
Xeon 3.0/3.2Ghz
Athlon 64 3500+ ( or 3800+ when it's out )
Opteron ... ( i really don't know how the speeds on this are available )

Depends wether you want graphic design performance or games performance. Also, depends if your willing to go dual with the xeon and opteron. Xeon's and Opterons aren't really worth it if your running them as a single CPU. If your serious about graphic desgin, get dual-cpu, no doubts about it.

If only a single CPU, i say get the 3500+ 939 A64. If two CPU's i say get the Opterons. Dual 242's would smack any other single cpu system in design apps no worries but in games theyll perform at about p4 2.8c level because only one cpu most of the time will work with games, unless you play Quake 3 in which case youll get billions of FPS. It might cost a bit more for dual, but its worth it.

One cpu, good for design and friggin awesome gaming = a64 3500+

Two cpu, friggin awesome for design and good gaming = 2 x Opteron 242 (cause 242 is cheap)

also with the opterons the memory is tied directly with the chip so you dont have the northbridge bottleneck..

for example if you have 1 xeon and add a 2nd you dont see a 100% gain in performance because now your jamming 2x the data down the same of northbridge ..so lets say you get 65%

with the opteron beacuse the memory is seperate + 90% or so
