I just got my new P4 2.8C and I'm wondering if I should do anything special with the thermal paste that comes on the Stock HSF unit. When I did my old P3 and T-bird systems a long time ago I cleaned off the stock stuff and put on some Artic Silver. Is the stock stuff better or worse than the old Artic Silver I still have? I'm not going to do any OCing yet and I'll be using the stock HSF for a while.

Thanks!

yes the stock stuff is worse then AS3. You dont have to remove the tape, but you should get lower temps w/the AS.

Dont try and put AS5 on the stock cooler. Just use the thermal pad that comes with the retail heatsink/fan. If your not overclocking it keeps the processor plenty cool.

I have the stock cooler on my 3.0c Northwood right now until i install my AeroCool HT-101 w/ AS5 and i'm only running around 37C.

Thanks for the replies. All I have is some old Artic Silver. It's just original stuff. Not AS3 or AS5. It's probably 4 years old. I think I'll just keep the pad on and not do anything out of the ordinary.

Thanks
