P4 running hot? Or MBM reading incorrect?

I am a little worried right now because I installed MBM and it is telling me my CPU is running at 96C and my case is at 74C and the CPU kernel is at 74C.

I'm assumed this was a wrong reading since the tempature monitor that came with my Mobo (HardWare Monitor 3) tells me my cpu is running at 45C under no load. Also my exact Mobo model is not one of the options when configuring MBM. Since I got a weird reading with MBM i decided to try speedfan. Speedfan tells me the same thing as MBM. Are my temps actually that high? I was planning on getting the Thermaltake P4 Spark 7+ HSF once I start over clocking but if my CPU is actually running that high....might need to get one sooner then I thought.

I also have 4 80mm case fans, so I thought they would take some heat out. My cables are a little messy and could probably be cleaned up to provide better circulation. But 96C? I thought it would shut itself down at that temp or just fry itself. Thanx for the help.

EDIT: Also, under my BIOS it tells me my CPU is 43/44C.

MBM5 is wrong... if that was your actual tempurature, you wouldn't be posting...

thats not true at all. P4's work up to about 120C fine. Then they shut off.

If you didnt know, they basically make up a temp that they report.

But it shouldnt be saying its that high. Sure you dont have it in F or something?

I've heard that Intel P4 thermal spec is closer to 70C, where it starts to throttle down. I seriously doubt he could make it to 96C and be running with no problems.

I would believe the bios reading and not mbm.

it throttles down for sure but it wont shut off till around 120C. 123C i believe is the actual temp.

*google* 135C. to find out how far off your P4 is reporting temps, fire up two instances of prime95 and take off the heatsink. watch the temp slowly rise (dont worry it WIL shut down before damage occurs). use the temp program you trust most, watch the temps closely so you know what temp is reported when it actually hits 135C and shuts down. Ive heard as much as 50C difference in what was reported in relation to the shutdown temp, as in it was saying it was 85C when it forced shutdown (and it will NOT do it before 135C)

MBM site doesnt show that your motherboard is compatable with MBM.

Figures that my motherboard isn't compatible. But when speedfan said the same thing I was worried. Underload in Hardware Monitor 3 it gets to around 55C so I should be ok. Thanx for the help guys.

Btw, is the HSF i mentioned good for a budget? I'm not worried about the sound.
