Ok I spoke a few months ago about purchasing a mobo, and after taking in all your good advice I have decided to go with the ASUS P4P800, this is one sweet board, what would you recommend for the processor? 3.0 or 3.2? Northwood or Prescott? what would be the best for a limited budget but still play Doom III with no lag what so ever???? Thanks.

Lag will largly depend on the videocard. Unless they came out with a new revision, P4P800 which I have, only supports northwood chips. Both 3.0 and 3.2 will serve you fine and difference will be rather negligable. Get which your willing to spend the $ on

Not true, all Asus i865 and i875P chipset based boards, and all 800MHz FSB capable motherboards are all Presott ready, at most all you need is a BIOS update to make them Prescott friendly.

The 3.2 is a little faster than the 3.0, however the price difference and whether or not the cost increase is worth it to you will be something you'll have to decide yourself. If they are relatively close cost wise I'd say go for the faster as always.

A 3.4ghz Northwood is a fantastic processor. Going down from that (by price) you'll get a 3.2C, then a 3.0C, then a 3.2E, then a 2.8C, then a 3.0E.

Now for the most part, you get what you pay for, and the more the CPU costs, the better performing it is. As far as bang for the buck goes, i think everbody would agree that Overclocking is the way to go. I have a 3.2E @ 4ghz, and from my experience and what i've seen on the board, most 3.2E owners with decent aftermarket cooling can expect at a minimum a 3.8ghz overclock. A 3.8ghz P4, whether it's a prescott or not, is a damn fast CPU.

So, first thing to do is pick your decent after market heatsink. I know SVC.com had the thermalright xp-90 for $30 recently. Then go back to that list of CPU's, add the $30 on top of the price of the CPU to include the hsf, and buy whichever the most expensive CPU you can afford is. OC it as far as you can, and you'll have the best bang for the buck for yor specific budget :)
