Right now Im otrn between getting a Pentium 4 560 3.6GHz LGA775 or an Athlon 64 FX 53 939. Gaming is my primary focus. Right now Im leaning towards the Athlon becuase I see higher benchmarks for games and I can use my current DDR400 memory as apposed to buy another 1.5GB of DDR2. Any suggestions?

Also if you vote for the Athlon should I go nForce3 or VIA chipset?

im an intel guy but between those 2, id go with the athlon for gaming.

amd, and the price/performance of that versus an opteron 150 and some registered memory is fooey. look at (single) opteron boards. or dual if you feel like it ;)

right now on newegg a fx53 is $885, and a opteron 150 is $638. you can get 1gb of memory for the difference. getting 2 opteron 244's is the same price. 2cpus will help in many games, in ut2k4 sound is on a seperate thread (and therefore cpu) and improves performance 20% over a single.
enough ranting. get a fx53, but consider your other options in this price range.

yeah like buying me one :D

I would go AMD but there's no (little to none) performance difference between the A64 and the FX processors, I'd get the A64 3000+ instead.

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the FX-53 939 perform even better than the 3800+

The FX does outform the 3800+ by a small margin but the price doesn't justify the speed. The major upside is that the FX comes unlocked (I think).

I'd get the FX. Every benchmark I have seen shows it performing better then the p4.
Also I would go with the nforce3 chipset.

for gaming yes, but the p4 would do better in apps like 3d,video editing, compositing etc, but id still go with the amd
