I just got my hands on a Desknote and I'm wanting to upgrade the processor to a Mobile Pentium 4. For those of you who don't know, a Desknote is a laptop that uses components made for desktops.

In short, this laptop has a desktop Pentium 4 2.0GHz (400MHz FSB) and 184-pin DDR SDRAM. From what I've heard, the cooling in these Desknotes is insufficient and it may be because of the processor. What I want to know is, are the Pentium 4M processors compatible with a Pentium 4 motherboard? I've looked at Intel's site and they share the same interface and everything.

but most mobos wont let you drop voltages to 1.3 in the bios =P
 
The catch is whether or not speedstep is supported.

Dropping a P4 M in a desktop works most of the time(not saying 100% cuz I haven't heard enough about it, may well be) but the processor is stuck at the lower multiplier, in most P4 M's that is 1200MHz.
The Mobile P4 and Mobile P4 HT may work with higher multi's, its something I've been wanting to play with but don't have the cash just for tinkering.
