Well, I have gotten myself a P4 system and I'm looking for a good HSF. The main purpose is to be as quite as possible!!!! Ihave a Lian Li PC65, I am using a MX2 Matrix Orbital LCD as a digital baybus to keep the fans as quite as possible, I'm using Enermax EG365P-VE power supply, now I need to replace the P4 stock HSF... I was thinking of gettin a Zalman CNPS7000-Cu HSF, first what is the difference between the CNPS7000-Cu and the CNPS7000A-Cu model? I looked and looked but can't find a difference!?!?! as well, I was going to turn it down to a slow as possible, will this still provide enough cooling on a 3.2GHz system? Can anyone recommend a different HSF!? I'm trying to go as QUITE as possible!!! Thanks!!!

and yes, I went through about 15 pages in this forum looking for anwsers and didn't find anything relevent.

Really no difference between the 7000A Cu and 7000 Cu, the A can also work for Slot A, but both will work for the P4s.

I have the 7000 AlCu, it's nice, though I think I installed it poorly, but the sound is very low, and it'll work for any Northwoods in full mode (25 Decibels).

The zalman is great. I think the a and non-a just makes a difference for the mounting kit that comes with it. The a works on p4's athlon xp and athlon 64. Non a doesn't mount to athlon xp.

You will get great temps and low noise with this hs. It even coems with a fan controller so you can lower it further if "quiet" isn't quite low enough.

Should answer any more questions: http://www.zalman.co.kr/english/product/product.htm

Been there, but if you click on the product you get a 404... hmmm... but I think you are correct, the A looks like it's for the socket A AMD XP... so is there a better/more quite HSF? or is this the best I can get?

site works for me. no 404's.

For how well these cool and how quietly, I would say they are one of the better bargains.

Sure you could spend more and get a "better" heatsink and pay for a quiet fan that may not perform as well.

Are you overclocking, just want silence, or both?

There are better heatsinks out there, and their performance depends on what kind of fan you mount on them. The best Intel one is probably the Thermalright SP-94, and you can mount a 92 or 80 mm fan onto it.

If you want little noise and very good overclocking ability, go with the Zalman 7000. I have it installed and I'm very pleased with it.

With that thermalrite how good is it with a 92mm fan? I want to run my 2.8 at 3.5 and keep the temps down....keeping temps down is the esay part...but i also wanna keep the noise levels to a minimum???

Do a search on google for some reviews. The sp-94's are awesome. Couple it with 92mm panaflow that moves a good amount of air quietly and you are set.

Noise is the biggest issue with me! I want the system to be as quite as possible! I did buy the 7000 Cu, huge and heavy thing!!! Very quite as well, even at full blast. I'll let you all know when the system is put together.
