I have a P4 2.4B overclocked to 3.0. It works fine with the stock Intel heatsink and fan, but if I stress the cpu (like encoding a DVD) the temperature gets up to and slightly over 60 degrees Celsius. I was considering getting an Alpha or a Swiftech heatsink to bring the 100% load temps down slightly, but I wanted to get some suggestions from you guys first. Thanks for you help.

i run my p4 3.0c @ 3.6 ghz (it does go higher but why?) with the zalman 7000 and my load temps are never over 52c with a room temp of over 25c. and it is massivly quiter then the volcano 7+ that it replaced (and it cools better by like 8c! if not more)

hope this helps.

Thanks for the input dagamore. Do you have the copper or aluminum/copper version of the Zalman? The Zalman looks nice and it has a quiet fan. I don't like the fact that the fan is built into the heatsink, but it probably wouldn't keep me from purchasing it. Does anyone else have any good suggestions?

About the zalman, one, the AlCu performs maybe 1C less than the Cu but is $10 less, plus its a lot lighter (never a problem but some are paranoid), two, the fan has a huge MTBF so its not a problem. be advised however that its NOT meant to run passive, i tried it once and lets just say TOP kicked in and saved my ass.

Swiftech's new heatsink the MCX478-V and thermalrights SP-94 are probably the best heatsinks you can buy for a P4 system. Pair them with a quality 92mm fan (panaflo is the best) and you'll be set. I doubt you'd get load temps over 45c. Try svc.com

Zalman 7000 AluCu or CU versions. Awesome heatsinks. So quiet and cool very well. I've got my 2.8@3.3 rock stable. Best heatsink i've ever owned.

The Zalman is a great cooler but don't try to get the temps that the guy with the Asus board got. Abit boards show about 12C higher than Asus boards they are not running hotter that is just the way it is reported. 60C isn't really all that high as it would probably show as about 48 on a Asus board. The Zallman is cool and quiet I just plugged mine into the motherboard and didn't use the fanmate and it is still pretty quiet and you gat about 200 more rpm out of thae fan if you hook it up that way.

My overclocked P4 with an Abit board has load temps around 48c with the Zalman 7000alcu..

i just got a 7000AlCu, it really is the best heatsink i have ever owned, not to mention its sheer beauty. im getting 35C idle, and 47C load, with25C ambient, and AS5, the base finish is amazing as well, its prefectly flat and perfectly milled. wow. and the best part, its 100% silent even at full speed, i cant hear it. its going in my next rig(wich will be silent, but air cooled) :D

Cool. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I think I'll be giving the Zalman 7000 a try. I like the looks of it and the fact that it is quiet. I feel better about my spending my hard earned cash on it knowing that so many people have had a good experience with it.

Peace
