Just got a new waterblock (6002).

I was wondering if it is infact worth it to take off that big hunk of metal over the core? I do not know why Intel put it there ( to prevent the core from being damaged? AMD does not do this?).

I plan (if the responses here are favorable) to remove the metal plate with Dental floss.

Will I see a nice decrease in temps by say like 5-10 degrees?

Any feed back welcome thanks.

That plate is a heatspreader. Please leave it on there! AMD's 64-bit processors have those, iirc.

Anybody know if it can be removed, AS5 put on the core, and then put the plate back on with krazy glue on the corners?

Or is it epoxied on there really good.

It's just another piece of copper between the core and your CPU, removing it would yield a small increase (very small).

I think, if you were feeling extreme enough that the improvement would be "worth it" to you, you wouldn't need to ask. =)

If I get a chance i will take a pic of mine. I removed the ihs with a flat painters razer!
