Ruling out the 64 bit stuff of the 670.... It appears that the main difference is the extra L2 cache that the 670 has (2MB vs the 570's 1MB).

In what applications would one see an advantage to using the 670 instead of the 570?

The 2MB of cache adds extra latency to the memory controller. Its mostly gaming that the performance increase is seen. Another difference is EIST, which the 670 has.

Not just the extra 1MB L2 cache but the 670 has Intel SpeedStep Technology and Execute Disable bit as well. Advantage using one over the other in apps?

Doesn't the 570 also have execute disable bit?

the 570J does. the 571 has EM64T as well.

There is no "570" version available, only "570J" (EDB) and "571" (EDB + EMT64T). Both come with 1MB cache and E0 stepping technology, while the 670 has 2MB cache and Enhanced Speedstep (N0). The 57x and 67x CPUs show similar performance in most benchmarks.

And to think I have had my 670J for a couple months now and I still havn't bought a PCIE graphics card so I can use it. :(

no such thing as a 670J. all 6 series chips have execute disable.

Not to mention 64 bit capability.

But there are 5x1 model with EIST and 64bit. These features are part of all Prescotts but not turned on.

Pentium4 551

They sold out quickly, LOL! These will ship with Cheap models and even the Celerons will get EIST and 64bit as well.

Intel's will also ship 2.66 533MHz FSB Dual Core.

I see. I just figured it was a j. The chip just says ES (Intel Confidential actually). ;)

I would get the 670 for the EIST. Get a motherboard that supports multiplier changing, drop the multi way down, and put your FSB at a crazy speed.

I received a P4 670 today. I switched the 570 CPU to the 670 CPU and ran 3DMark05. Everything else is the same.

With the 570:

3DMark Score (3DMarks) 7805

CPU Score (CPUMarks) 5486

With the 670:

3DMark Score (3DMarks) 7911

CPU Score (CPUMarks) 5654

Going to swap from 2 X 512MB RAM to 2 X 1GB RAM next to see what that does. :D
