P4 640 Overclocking

I'm basically a n00b with Intel pcs, cuz I've never owned one (only had an IBM Aptiva w/ a 370 Celeron for 6 years but never built one myself)

I'm planning on getting the 550 or 640, stock 3.2 and 3.4hz with 1ML2 and 2ML2, and wanted to know what good RAM I need if I want to overclock to past 3.4ghz. (Have Thermaltake 120mm blue led third eye on Thermalright XP-120 heatsink) I'd perhaps like least 1.5 or 2 GB of RAM. I'd like the CAS to be 2, and keep the price under $300. Hmm... if you're going Intel I'd much recommend the 600 series over the 500. I've worked with one of each I have to say that the 600 series is a blessing. The 530J would thermal throttle constantly, but not my friend's 630. Not to mention that the 630 just felt faster.

On newegg the 550 has more reviews and is 3.4ghz and the 2mb cache does a more laggy performance than having 1 MB, it's what i heard. And the 550 can overclock more?

The 550 has more reviews because its an older processor. The 600 series is, more or less, what the 500 series should have been: cooler and faster with 64-bit support. Google for some reviews comparing the two series, you'll see what I mean.

Here's why...
P4 630 @ 4500 on air...

Now, it wasn't 24/7 stable, but it was fun to play around in windows without a blue screen, hehe. I'm runnin' 3825, 40 idle, 55 load, stock voltage due to ram issues...

EDIT: The version of Cpu-z doesn't read the right vcore for the 6xx series, it's much higher than that...1.6somethin...

can a 640 get to 4000mhz on air stable?

i assume it can considering a 630 got to 4500 mhz (albeit unstable)
