My setup:
P4 3.2 Cooled with stock hs/fan
3x 512MB Kingston PC2100
Asus P4P800

What can I overclock this too reliably, and what settings would i use to get there? I'm a newb to oc'n. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You probably won't overclock much with pc2100 ram. Also, to run dual channel you need 2 or 4 ram sticks.

If i could get better perf by running dual channel with only 2 512's than running the 3 512's im all for it. I'm just trying to get the best reliable performance out of what I have now.

Well, try running your system with 2 ram sticks. You might need to set your ram ratio to 3:2

Why spend all that money on a 3.2 and run it on PC2100?

Dude, get some PC3200 at least and let that bad boy go. Your overclock will no doubt be hampered by those 3 sticks of 2100.

I just upgraded yesterday from an xp2100 to the p4 3.2. I am using the old memory till i get some more money. I think $600 in one afternoon was enough. No need to spend another $400.

4 sticks? Why would you want 4 sticks? I assume you want a gig of ram. Anything more than that would be overkill now. And by getting 2 sticks of 512, you get a gig and 2 more slots to upgrade.

2 sticks of 'dual channel' (a bullshit term btw) ram will run you about 200-250$ for a decent set. Getting 4 dimms of 256 would run slower than 2 or 512 anyway.

When i buy my new ram i want 2gigs, hence the 4 sticks. Now back to my original q. Would it run better with the 2 512's in dual channel or should i just leave all 3 in? And how much do you think i can overclock my whole setup to reliably?

Ah ha! 2 gigs with a 3.2 would be a monster system. What do you plan on doing with it?

As far as overclocking goes, you never know until you try:D Try running with the 3 sticks, and if you run into instability, take one of the sticks out and run in dual channel.

Just playin games. Im also trying to find software to make beats, so if anyone knows something good, let me know.

I know. but its always better to have too much than not enough.

Not if its at the cost of complete overkill and the fact that you'll be hampered by the 2100 until you get money for your 2gigs of ram. Plus, I dont think anyone makes 4 matched sticks of ram anyway, so just get some TwinX or the like. Trust me, a gig of ram for gaming today is PLENTY.

I had the p4p800 deluxe with 3.0c. I'm also running it with a pair of pc2100 512mb pny ram. The cpu got zelman cu7000 on it. I'm running it at 3.44 right now with 48C under full load. I set it to 230mhz. If you want to oc it, I would definity suggest you get a better cpu cooler. You dont really need 2gb of ram. Its overkill. Save the money to get some good ram and good cpu cooler. I'm planning on getting the kingston pc4000 512mb ram from best buy.
