P4 3.0C overclock problem on IC7-G

Whenever I start to overclock my CPU, I seem to lose my SATA functionality... I have a second hard drive hooked up via the "on-chip" connection and it ceases to show up in during post or in windows....

Any ideas?
 
Make sure you lock your PCI/AGP frequencies in the BIOS at 33/66 (respectively). How high and at what FSB are you trying to overclock your chip?

I know that I have the CPU to DRAM ration ( ??? I think ???) locked at 1:1... I believe the PCI/AGP was at 33/66. I was only trying to hit a 3.2 Ghz overclock --- so 200 --> 215 FSB
 
double check the PCI/AGP lock.

It should say
agp/pci ratio: FIXED
agp/pci: 33/66
 
Sorry for the late info - yes, I had to change the pci ratio thingy to "FIXED" which lock the BUS speed down and allowed my system to boot and recognize the SATA drive... I OCed to 3.2 and already had an error (prime95).... so I'm thinking I need to up my core voltage - right?
 
BTW - is that Abit bios even available to the public? The latest on their site is 24.... and you're saying 25...
 
its final, abit just takes a while to update their site and the flashmenu program.
 
The linkage doesn't seem to work - is there somewhere else that I can get the update? What does it fix anyway?

Depends, what are your temps when you got an error with Prime95? If your temps are under 62C then you probably need more voltage.... over 62C and P4C's can get errors. Now a Prescott doesnt get errors until like 70C! Probably just the throttling is set higher on a Prescott.
 
I figured out it was my memory that was causing the problem - I upped the DDR voltage to 2.65 (from 2.6 I think) and now it's nice and stable. I was also able to get my memory running at 2-2-3-5 at over its stock speed..... still running 1:1... next I'm gonna see if I can't get it running at 2-2-2-5 - See whether I get more performance out of the overclock or the lower latencies...

How hot is too hot with my current cooling? (See sig) --- At the current overclock, I'm running stock core voltage at 3.3ghz - and the processor runs at about 120 idle and kicked up to like 140 under load (prime95 running for a while) --
