Buying a 3.0c tonight and 1GB of RAM, I'm thinking PC-4000. I use my comp for, tons of gaming of course and will be oc'ing it a bit. I want to run the cpu at stock for a while then bump it up 400 or 500mhz or whatever it'll do safely on air. I'm not loyal to any one brand of RAM but I've always used Corsair, and just got done looking at the Kingston Hyper-X 1GB dual kit, looks nice.

Advice? Thx.

My suggestion would be, don't buy a gig of anything! I am kicking myself in the ass right now for it. Yeah, my RAM is still pretty good, but you say you plan to game and O/C so I take it you must be an enthusiast who likes to stay current on hardware? If I had gone 512MB vs 1024MB I think I would a.) had plenty of memory b.) not be out so much money to upgrade to the faster RAM now. :(
Keep in mind, my RAM was the fastest out there when I bought it, but that quickly changed.
If I wasn't into O/C then I could easily call it good and that would be that...but it's never good enough, is it? ;)
Do yourself a favor and buy two 256MB sticks of the fastest thing out there. 6 months down the road it won't hurt nearly as bad to ditch them for the latest, greastest RAM.

(BTW Corsair has been excellent! Very fast and amazing O/C potential. I can set my PC to 20%/Turbo, 2-2-2-5-4 and it runs 240fsb 3.6GHz 24/7 with zero voltage mods or tweaking.)

I want 1GB of ram cause it's pretty much manditory with the games that are out now, FarCry,etc. I had 512 for a while and I'm not worried about what's gonna be faster down the road, I don't make enough money to build a new rig every 6 months. That's why I'm still running my 2.4B, I've had it since last summer and it's been great but I want a CPU and RAM to match the rest of my system. Then I'm done with this one for a while.

So, do you think some form of PC-4000 is the right speed for what I want out of this processor? If it's not necessary, then I'll just get some 3200.

Ooh, looks nice. How long have you been running that stuff? I'm not familiar with Geil.

Some GeIL Value RAM that I used to use (80 bucks for 512 mb) will do 450 mhz at 2.5-3-3-6 latency with 3.0 volts.

I am impressed with GeIL.

If you're gonna go with the PC4000 ram, don't go with the Kingston Hyper-X, I just recently read a review compareing lots of different PC4000 ram types, and the Kingston bombed. The Corsair and the OCZ gold did the best. Here is the link http://www.ocprices.com/?rev_id=188
I hope that helps.
