My Cpu is idleing at around 35-40 C but when I play a game of any kind, or a demo it go's up to around 55-60 C.

I am running the stock heatsink and fan, running at stock speeds.

Is this temp normal?

My system is listed in my Sig and it is correct.

My case is a thermaltake with the fan on top, and two on the side, plus the front and rear fans. All are on, and of course I have fan controls for my casefans but even if I crank them it makes no difference.

This is my temp after playing three loops in the ati chimp demo, to give you a idea.

Let me know what you think.

If I need an better Cooler, I want somthing fairly quite.

Thanks

Those are my temps at idle, inside of an old full tower case.

That is after 45 minutes of playing cod on 800x600 max settings full af
I keep my room pretty cold and the case has good circulation, does your proc have thermal paste on it? I didn't add any when I switched from my stock hsf to the swiftech w/vantec fan combo and when I went back and put more on it made a difference.

Is your 3.0 a Prescott? If not, then something is wrong since my 2.8 Prescott doesn't even hit that high.

it's a not a prescott, I am not sure if I put any thermal paste on or not, how much of a differece is there?

and what is a good cpu cooler that is quite and that auto ajusts?

those temps look normal to me, my ic7 was reading 50C idle and close to 70C under load with my 2.4@3.2. the ic7's are off about 10C so its almost the same reading as yours/

without thermal paste you can expect much higher temperatures as the heatsink and processor won't be making a very good connection for transfering heat. how could anyone that reads these forums not remember if they put thermal paste on his/her cpu..

It's been awhile since i have put my computer together, i am sure i did put some on.

so, those are normal temps.

Good, and if i was to think about overclocking, what would be a good cpu cooler?

Those aren't great temps since ASUS boards under report temps by about 5 degrees or so, but it's definitely nothing to really be worried about. If you want to overclock the Zalmann7000Al/Cu or the all copper one will work great. Just make sure it fits your case as it is a bit large. Or the Thermalright ones are also good.

Some Arctic Silver 5 would also be nice to keep things cool. Definitely make sure u do everything properly and mount the hsf correctly. These should run u an extran 40 dollars or so and it will take a bit for the AS5 to break in and really drop temps. I think its like 30 days or 100 shutdowns and startups.
