p4 2.8c's hyper-threading not recognizing

I just swapped my 2.4c (OC'd to 3.17ghz) with a 2.8c (OC'd to 3.31ghz) but the HT isnt getting recognized on my Abit AI7 board or in the OS. I made sure that HT support is still enabled in the BIOS. I still noticed a big improvement over the swapping of chips and I don't think it's just because of the increased 140mhz. I dont think that Intel ever made a 2.8c (2.8ghz/512kb/800fsb) without Hyper-Threading so I'm wondering what's up.


Just for fun, here's my specs:
P4 2.8c OC'd to 3.31ghz
Abit AI7 Guru System Board
2GB Dual-Channel Samsung PC3200 4x512mb
160GB SATA Raid-0 2x80GB Hitachi Deskstar 7200rpm 8mb cache
PNY Nvidia 6800 (Opened up all 16x pipelines, extra vertical shader, and OC'd to 389/872)
16 80mm fans
400watt PSU
 
positive. says right on the cpu pentium 4 2.8 512/800

i can also tell it's 800fsb when i OC it.

I'm going to assume you didn't reinstall windows? If you didn't, you have the single processor acpi hal still. You'll either need to reinstall windows or try uninstalling your hal in the device manager and hope windows redetects the correct HAL when you reboot. For hyperthreading to work in xp, you need to have the multiprocosser acpi hal installed. It's listed under computer in Computer Management.
 
You don't need to reinstall windows to change the CPU type.

In device manager, click + next to Computer and right click the node that opens (probably ACPI Uniprocessor PC). On the window that opens, click the driver tab, click the update driver button, click no and next, click install from a list... and next, click don't search and next, and select ACPI Multiprocessor PC and click next. Follow the prompts after that to finish installing.

Reboot and both logical CPUs will be recognized.
 
I think you're right, but my previous 2.4c chip was HT so I dont know why it would be a problem to swap it with another HT chip. I checked device manager and under computer it says: MPS Uniprocessor PC

I also went into sisoftare Sandra and checked out my cpu info and had a little warning saying:
HT disabled or OS does not support all HT CPUs. Check config. when I turn off HT in my BIOS, this message goes away.

Tried updating the driver since it wont let me uninstall (for obvious reasons) and didnt fix it. Don't really wanna reinstall windows :(
 
Just took pcx's advice and was able to change singleprocessor to multiprocessor. then had to reboot twice. Same problem. Only showing once processor
 
It sound like you broke your Hyperthreading pin while installing your CPU. pin # 419 must not be intact. Try reseating your CPU..

























Ok, just kidding, I don't know what the hell. Sound like you have a broken install of winders XP. LOL

i think the problem is that i'm using "MPS Multiprocessor" when I should be using "ACPI Multiprocessor". but it wont let me pick that one. i found that the driver name is Halmacpi.dll but i cant get it to use that driver even when going through "Have Disk"

Hmm what Operating System are you running, i believe HT can only be detected by Window 2000pro and Window Xp pro atm. Did you try enabling it in your bios? and are you positive that your mobo support HT.
 
I'm running xp pro. i'm 100% positive my mobo runs HT and yes it's enabled. HT worked fine on my 2.4c.
 
well, I'll sell you my 2.8C that doesn't have a broken HT pin 419. :) lol

I'm going to be selling either my 2.4C or 2.8C soon. Or I might put them both up on the for sale block and see which one sells faster / or for more.
Though the 2.8C should be worth more, the 2.4C is a MAD overclocker.
