My motherboard has an intel 645 chipset, or 658.. i cant remember, but unlucky for me, they only run stable to like 187mhz fsb :( that almost lets me get a 800mhz fsb but it wont work and i dont want to spend the extra money. When the intel Celeron 3.33Ghz with 256kb cache and 533fsb comes out, would it be worthwhile to get it (my current proc is a P4 2.66 with 512 cache.

Here is the cpu support list for your motherboard at gigabytes website:

CPU Support List

Looks like that board has the SIS655 chipset which I think only supports Northwood core processors up to a 533FSB with Hyper Threading.

This means you can't use any 800FSB processor regardless of core type.
You can't use any Prescott core processors inlcuding the Celeron D & 800FSB Pentium 4's because those are prescott cores.

Looks like you are limited to a Pentium 4 Northwood core 533FSB HT chip or Northwood Celerons.

This is what I can gather from what I looked up for you. Someone may have this board & may have tried non-supported processors with success. I think you would at least need the latest BIOS flashed on your computer to get the most recent cpu support Gigabyte can offer for that board anyways.

Good luck upgrading it.

It'll probably be the same...the celerons higher clock rate and the pentiums higher cache will probably equal it out...so it might be the same altogether.

My Celeron 2.4@3.2GHz was just a hair faster than my P4 2.66. So while it will be a speed upgrade, you would be better off waiting until you can afford more than just a new CPU.

As for your current situation:
A 2.66 runs 20x133. Even if you maxed out at 166FSB, that's 3.3ghz.

If you get an E0 Celeron D, you could be looking at quite a jump. There's more info on it over at OCForums, but a lot of people are getting 4 ghz. I can say that my chip @ 3.7 ghz is enough for WoW at 1600x1200.
