P4 2.4 or Celeron 2.6?

What kind of P4 ?

This order

Assuming you're going to OC:

P4 2.4C(800) > 2.6 Celeron D (533) > 2.4B (533) > 2.6 Celeron (400)

b/c the 2.4C will probably hit 3.0++Ghz at 1000+FSB and kick ass (mine does 3.6Ghz)
the 2.66 Celeron D will probably hit 3.4Ghz++ at 680FSB and perform well
the 2.4B might hit 3Ghz if you're lucky, but a lot of them only did 2.8+ or - Ghz (most are old steppings)
the 2.6 Celeron (128Kb L2 cache) sucks ass and will probably only hit 3Ghz.

No overclocking:
P4 2.4C > P4 2.4B > 2.66 Celeron D > 2.6 Celeron

BTW, don't get a Celeron based on the Northwood core (only 128Kb L2)
 
I have a Celeron D 2.66G, in a 775 pin package. The 478pin Celeron D is either a C0 or D0 stepping. The 775 pin Package is an E0 stepping.

This 2.66G has a 20x multiplier @ 133 (533 fsb), but this one runs at 200MHz (800 fsb), which means it runs at 4.0GHz.

What cooling do you use for running at 4 GHz?
 
I've just got it running last night on a new mobo, so I need to load drivers and I'll give a report on how it runs under prime95 in the next day or two.
Using the stock fan & voltage.
 
Pentium 4 > Celeron

Thats really how you should look at it. Yes, their is more depth to it, but espically if you are talking about 200Mhz difference only... Pentium 4 all the way

the 478 Celeron D comes in E0 as well. I have a Celeron D 320 with an E0 stepping. It does 3.6Ghz on stock Vcore.

Mine does the same speed...at this clock rate, It can take down a stock 2.4C with ease.
 
The Celeron system I built last week had a 775pin 2.66Ghz Celeron D, I played around with it at 3.0, 3.2Ghz and 3.4Ghz, all were perfectly stable (prime95 tested) on default voltage. I didn't even try higher, since this was just for a granny email box. I ended up leaving it at 3.2Ghz b/c it ran a little warm at 3.4Ghz.

Granny isn't going to open up the case and blow it out with compressed air. And in fact, she was planning on putting it in an enclosed cabinet part of the desk. So I didn't want to push the OC. Since it did 3.4Ghz at only 1.35v it would probably have hit 3.7++ with some extra juice, etc.

Ok, here's the story so far.

I haven't burned it in yet, so this is how it runs out of the box so far.

Stock voltage, it boots and loads Windows at 4.0G. At this stage it fails Prime95. It also fails at 3.8G, but it runs ok at 3.6G. I'll run it longer in Prime95 and do a burn in when I get a chance.

Then I'll tweak the voltage. The temperature tops out at about 51 degrees at this stage running Prime95, but the ambient temperature is low where I'm testing (about 18 degrees C)
